Calculation:
1) Calculate factored shear force @ distance "d" from support:
Vu = 765.6 kip
2) Calculate shear strength provided by concrete:
ФVc = Ф2√fc'bd = 29.3 kip
3) Calculate 1/2ФVc:
1/2ФVc = 1/2Ф2√fc'bwd = 14.7 kip
4) Calculate Vc1:
Vc1 = 4√fc'bwd = 69.0 kip
5) Calculate Vc2:
Vc2 = 8√fc'bwd = 138.0 kip
5) Check:
a. Vu < 1/2ФVc = No; So stirrup is req'd.
b. 1/2ФVc < Vu <ФVc =
6) Calculate Vs:
( Vu -
Vs = = 866.2 kip
ФVc)/Ф
8) Determine the required spacing :
a) Spacing based on Vs:
S1 = Avfyd/Vs = 0.3 in c/c
Smin = 4 in c/c
S = 0.3 in c/c
7) Calculate Vs for maximum spacing of 11 in :
Vs = Avfyd/S = 59.6 kip
ФVs = 0.85*Vs = 51 kip
ФVc+ФVs = 80 kip
The distance xc at which S= 5.0 in c/c can be used is 7.36 ft from support.
Use S = 0.3 in c/c up to 7.36 ft from support face.
then use S = 5.0 in c/c.
0
Output:
Change the section or increase concrete strength.
1)Place first stirrup at S/2 = 0.0 in from column face
2)Provide stirrup @ 0.0 in c/c up to 7.4 ft from support face.
3)Provide stirrup @ 5.0 in c/c from 7.4 ft to mid span of beam.
Design Summary:
1) Calculate the ultimate shear force Vu from the applied forces acting on the structural member.
The crital design shear value is at a section located at a distance d from the face of the support.
b. If 1/2ФVc < Vu ≤ ФVc , minimum shear reinforcement is required. Use no. 3 U- stirrups
spaced at maximum spacings, as explained in step 7.
c. If Vu > ФVc, calculate the shear reinforcement must be provided according to steps 4 through 8.
b. S3 = Avfy/50bw
8) If S1 calculated in step 6 is less than Smax (the smaller of S2 and S3),then use S1 to the nearest smaller 1/2 in.
If S1 > Smax; then use Smax to he nearest smaller 1/2 in.
