Business decisions are influenced by factors designed to allocate resources so
Profits and productivity are maximized while costs are minimized. Linear program-
ming is one method used to help the decision making process by graphing a group
of equations or inequalities. A polygon region bounded by equalities or inequalities
is created. Mathematicians have proven that any point in the bounded region
satisfies all the constraints and if there is a maximum or minimum value it will occur
at one of the vertices of the polygon region.
Set the calculator view-window to the INIT setting. Graph the following inequalities:
Y25-X Y>0 Y<-08X+7 Y 0 (not possible to produce a negative amount)
‘Sketch the graph that results from the above constraints. C.
Determine the coordinates of the vertices of the polygon determined by the
constraints given for the manufacturing problem. D.
Which of the vertices generates the greatest profit for the manufacturer under the
given constraints? E.
What is the maximum profit for the manufacturer? F.
Find a linear programming problem in your textbook (not a solved example or a
problem with the answer given) and solve it. G.
