It is customary to light the court from each corner to ensure uniformity. However,
this can produce glare. To avoid glare, columns need to be 8-10m high, and the
addition of columns/luminaires at points opposite the net-line enable lower
angles of inclination, therefore reducing glare significantly.
Although SON lamps are more efficient than metal halide, it is generally
accepted that due to the poor colour rendering with the former, it is more
advantageous to utilise the white appearance of metal halide lamps.
It is advisable that the columns are root mounted and that padding is provided
around the column bases to avoid accidents.
