Abstract

SMART CARD BASED DOOR ACCESS SYSTEM.

INTRODUCTION:

The most common devices used to control access to private areas where sensitive
work is being carried out or where data is held, are keys, badges and magnetic cards.
Here we proposed a low cost embedded controller based smart card which consists of
contact less card and a card reader. In this if user is valid card is accessed and LCD
shows message us “valid” and door is opened otherwise it shows “invalid” and door is
not opened.

Block diagram:

1
Features :
• Fully micro controller based interface using PIC16F72 MCU

• Working Voltage – 12V AC/DC

• Operating Current - 500ma Approx

• Relay Contact Rating – 230V AC / 500W

• On board 16 x 2 LCD display

• Programmable user code

• On board switches for programmed the smart card

• On board relay Status LED indicator

• On board Power LED indicator

• Buzzer for audible indication and Alarm

ADVANTAGES:

• The capacity provided by the on-board microprocessor and data capacity for
highly secure, off-line processing
• Adherence to international standards, ensuring multiple vendor sources and
competitive prices
• Established track record in real world applications
• Durability and long expected life span (guaranteed by vendor for up to 10,000
read/writes before failure)
• Chip Operating Systems that support multiple applications
• Secure independent data storage on one single card

Smart card is required to perform three

fundamental functions -
1) To communicate with a host device
2) To store data
3) And to process data received by and stored in the card

2
DISADVANTAGES:

They can easily be duplicated and when stolen or passed on, they can allow entry by
an unauthorized person.

APPLICATION:
- For Security
- As access control
- Attendance monitoring
- Credit cards
- Electronic cash
- Computer security systems
- Wireless communication
- Banking
- Satellite TV
- Government identification
