Grants Pursuit of Lee

After Gettysburg the confederacy is hanging on until the war ends. Grant wins through 
numbers. Cold harbor Grant loses more but pushes Lee back to Virginia. At Petersburg 
Grant pushes Lee’s men to the point of exhaustion. 

Battle of Mobile Bay

David Ferrigate is assigned to take Mobile and New Orleans. Fort Morgan and Fort 
Gaines are taken in 1861. The port was no longer able to be used. The city of Mobie 
does not give up until after the war. They torpedoed the water around Mobile Bay.

Andersonville

It is a Confederate prison in Georgia. Almost 1/3 of the men who went there died. Wirz 
is the commandant, he is executed as a war criminal. 

Sherman’s March

The purpose is to destroy the South’s will to fight. The method is to wage total war. 
There was a 250 miles long and 60 miles wide. South Carolina was home to most of the 
damage. The capture of Richmond places Lee as the highest ranking union official.

Lee’s Surrender

Most of Lee’s troops wanted to continue fighting, Appamathox Courthouse, VA ; Mclean 
Home. E. The terms were the Confederates could keep their weapons and their anim­
als. Some of the people didn’t actually surrender. Abe Lincoln gets shot in the back of 
the head,
