God Sees the Truth, But Waits

PLOT
 Exposition
• Ivan Dmitri Aksionov, a young merchant, lives in the town of Vladimir with his family.
• He decided to go to a fair as a business risk.
• His wife warned him not to go because of a nightmare she had.
• He didn’t mind his wife's dream and left for the fair.
• He met another merchant on his way.
• They checked in into the same inn.
• Aksionov woke up early in the next morning and left without the other merchant.

 Rising Action/ Complication


• Aksionov was stopped by some policemen.
• They said that merchant was just murdered and robbed
• They search Aksionov's bag and found a bloody knife
• He was surprised and looked pale.
• He was sent to Siberia for his trial.
• His wife could finally visit him after the trial.
• His wife also suspected him to be the murderer.
• He gave up every hope he had and trust everything to God.
• Aksionov spends twenty-six years in Siberia.
• He learned how to earn a little money.
• He becomes a mediator of sorts in the prison.
• One of the new prisoners who came was Makar Semyonich.
• After overhearing several conversations, Aksionov was convinced that Makar
Semyonich is the man who committed the murder for which he was blamed.
• Aksionov prayed all night but couldn’t get peace.
• Aksionov had found out that it was Makar Semyonich that was digging the hole.
• The convicts were led out to work.
• The prison was investigated and the tunnel was found out.
• All the prisoners were questioned about the tunnel
• The governor turned to Aksionov and asked him.
 Climax
• Aksionov spoke out that it is not his place to speak about the matter.

 Falling Action
• Makar was so moved by Aksionov's protection of him that he went to him at night to seek
his forgiveness.
• Aksionov forgived Semyonich.
• Makar Semyonich confesses to the authorities.
• Aksionov dies before he can go home.
