Mishkaat, that while Wudhu purifies one externally, this dua is a supplication for internal purity. It is as though one is supplicating that, "0 Allah, we have cleansed ourselves externally, which was within our power. o Allah, you now purify us internally as well, through Your mercy."

FARAAIDH (COMPULSORY ACTS) OF WUDHU The above mentioned procedure was the Sunna; method. Certoin octs are compulsory in Wudlw. If even one is left out Of has some deficiency, then Wlldl,. will nol be complete. In Wudhu, there are only four Faraaidh ( compulsory ccrs).

G) To wash both feet once upto and including the ankles.

8y doing this much, the Wudhu will be completed.

SUNNAT METHOD OF GHUSL

First wash both hands uplo the wrists.Thereafter wash off any impurity that may be on the body (eg. semen, etc). This should be followed by tstinjaa of both the front and bock private parts (whether there is a need for this or not). Now periorm Wudhll

according to the Sunnat manner. If one is laking a bath in such a place where the water does not fI away but instead gothers at the feel, then do not wash the feet there. After the Wudhll, pour water over the head thrice (sufficient water should be poured so that the entire body-is completely drenched). Rub the body with the hands so that no port remains dry. II even one ha iris left dry, the gnusl will be i ncom plete.

In short, ensure thot water passes over the entire body. Thereafter, move away from this place to a pure spot to wosh one's feel. If, however, the feet had been washed at the time 01 wudn«, then there is no need 10 repeat the washing (Sehishtl Zewar, Shami; Val. I, pg. 157-/59) Note: The oct of wiping oneself with a towel after ghusl is also recorded in the Hadtth. likewise, not to wipe oneself but to allow the water to dry up on its own is also recorded in the Hodith. Hence, whichever of the two methods are adopted, make the intention offullillingthe SUflnat. (Nasa;; Vol./,pg.3I, Tirmldhi; Vol. I, se. 18, Shami; Vol. /, ee. s»

FARAAIDH (COMPULSORY ACTS) OF GHUSL

The above mentioned method is the 5Uflflat procedure for gnus!. In ghusl, some oels are compulsory

. without which one's ghusl will not be correct and one will remain impure. Thus, it is necessary to have the knowledge of what is compulsory in gnusl. Only three acts are compulsory in ghusl.

FEW SUNNATS OF SOCIAL LIFE

Q) To greet with Salaam is one of the great Sunnats for a Muslim. Rosulolloh ( ~~) has laid a lot of emphasis on this. II increases love amongst people. Salaam should be made to every Muslim whether one knows him or not (8ukhari). Salaam is an Islamic right and to know the person is not a requirement.

@ It has been mentioned in the ahadith of 8ukhari and Muslim that once Rasulullah ( ~) passed by a group of children and he mode Sataam to them, hence, we deduce that it is Swmt>t to make Sataam to children as well.(Muslim; Vol. 2, pg. 214)

CD The Sunna» method of making Salaam is that one should soy verbolly ~;i:Ji. To make Salaam with the wove of the hand, the nod of the head orthe indication of the linger 0' to answer to the Salaam in this manner is against the Sunna/. If Salaam is being mode from for then one should make Salaam verbally as well as with the hand. (Mishkaa r- Vol. 2, pg.399 narrating from Tirmidhi) G> When meeting a fellow Muslim, then it is Surma/ to she ke hands with hi m after Salaam. Females may shake

hands with one another.

(Mishkaa/-Vo/.2, P9. 401 from Baraa Ibn Aaztb "",.i.I~) ® When ioining any gathering, one should sit wherever a place is found. To make others stand up and to sit in their place is Makruh and a sln.(8ukhar/, Muslim) ® When a person comes to meet you move a lillie even though there is ample place. This is also Sunna: and through it, the one arriving will feel honoured. (Zaadu/·TQafjbeen, narrating from 8alhaq/)

CD If there are three persons together, it is not permissible for two persons from omongst them to engage in any coversotion separately without the third person being able to hear. The third person moy become suspicious and feel hurt. To hurt the feelings of ony Muslim is a great sin. (Muslim; Vol. 2, P9. 219) ® When going to somebody's house one should toke permission before entering.(Mlshkaat; pg. 401) ® When yowning, it is Sunnat 10 prevent it as for as possible. (8ukhari). If the mouth cannot be kept dosed despite moking on effort to do so, then place the bock of the left hond over the mouth. While yawning, any sound should not be allowed to emanate as this is forbidden in the hadlrh. "

(8ukharl; Vol. 2, P9. 919, Muslim; Vo/.2, pg. 412. 413)

@l When hearing 0 good name then to regard it as a good omen is Sunnat and to become pleased with this is also Sunnat, To regard anything as a bad omen is strictly prohibited. For instance, when someone

sneezes to think that you will not succeed in your work or to regard'the cowing of a crow or the sight of a monkey or the hooting of on owl as an indicotion of en

impendinq colamily is baseless arid a result of igrlorance . 0 rid i ncorrect beliefs. Irl the same mariner, to regard someone as a means of bad luck or to regard OrlY day as bod is a very evil oct. (Mirqaat; Vol. 9, pg. 2, 6.)

Acting upon the Sunnat makes a person the . beloved 01 Allah To'ola. That is why one should oct 'upon them punctually.

ISTIKHAARAH

It is narrated from Hazrat [aablr (...,:..111 ....... J) that Rcsololloh (~ )used to teach us the dua of

Istlkharah for important matters in the some manner as he used to teoch us the Surahs of the Qur'aan_

He (~) used to say, "When you intend doing any important work, then read two rakaats naf! salaah and thereafter read this aua." (which is mentioned below) (Bukhari: fl9. 944)

Rasul u Ilah (~4!J:. ) once remarked to Anas (...,lIIl..r"J ) "0 Anas I when you are undecided wilh regards to any moller, then seek counsel. from your ··Rabb and do Ihis seven times. Therecfter, whatever decision prevails in your heart regard it to be beneficial." (Shaaml; Vol. I, pg. 507)

Note: II is not necessary that one sees a dream or hears a voice. Asking another person to make Isfikhaarah on one's behalf is not substantiated from any hadith. To make Mashwarah (consultation) with someone else is Sunna: .

. It has been mentioned in the hadllh that whomsoever makes Mashwarah will never regret and whomsoever makes Isflkhaarah will never be unsuccessful.

If one does not g!ilt the opportunity to perform Salaatu! Istikhaarlilh and needs' to make I.tikhaarah urgently, then reciting the dua of Isrlkhaarah only will suffice. If one has not learnt the duo of Istlkhaaroh then one should recite this concise duo:
