Primary Polling Process

Presidential Primary Polling Process

 Polling starts April 25 for two days (if not completed, it


will be extended to a third day)
 Polling times are to be held between 18:30 to 22:00 or
22:30
 Five polling companies will be engaged in the process.
Every company must complete 3,000 successful
samples
 After polling process is completed, the results will be
announced next day noon (either Wednesday April 27 or
Thursday April 28)

Campaign Regulations
 From midnight of April 22, presidential
primary candidates must refrain from:

1. Participating in any interviews or talk shows either on TV


or radio,
2. Publicizing or purchasing any advertisements on radio,
TV or online media,
3. Conducting or publishing any polls,
4. Holding campaign rallies during polling dates and times,
5. Making telephone campaign calls during polling dates
and times.

Method: Contrast Style Polling

Between DPP Candidate A and the KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou, who


do you wish to be the future president?
Between DPP Candidate B and the KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou, who
do you wish to be the future president?
Between DPP Candidate C and the KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou, who
do you wish to be the future president?

 A sample is considered successful when the


respondent answers all questions from
beginning to end

 Supporting either A, B or C, and Ma Ying-jeou or


Neither are considered effective answers

Decision Outcome (1)
 Any candidate with the score higher than KMT
opponent (Ma Ying-jeou) will be considered the
winner

DPP Candidate A:KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou 37:38


DPP Candidate B:KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou 39:35
DPP Candidate C:KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou 32:36

 Winner is B

Decision Outcome(2)

 If no DPP candidate scores higher than


opponent KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou, then DPP
candidate with highest score is considered
winner

DPP Candidate A:KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou 32:38


DPP Candidate B:KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou 34:35
DPP Candidate C:KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou 35:37

 Winner is C

 In case of a tie, the winner is considered to having
achieved the highest difference between candidate
and KMT opponent

DPP Candidate A:KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou 39:35 (+4)


DPP Candidate B: KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou 39:37 (+2)
DPP Candidate C: KMT’s Ma Ying-jeou 33:36

 Winner is A
