Which M9 Service Pistol operational term describes rearward movement of slide overriding the
hammer and forcing the hammer into its most rearward position?

Unlocking
Ejector
This safety feature moves the firing pin striker out of alignment with the firing pin and prevents
the M9 Service Pistol from firing as the hammer moves forward.
Decocking/Safety Lever
This safety feature interrupts the forward movement of the hammer during a mechanical failure or
if the trigger finger is stopped or slips off the trigger during trigger squeeze.
This internal safety feature prevents the weapon from firing fully automatic when the slide does
not return to the full battery position due to a pistol, magazine, or ammunition malfunction.
Disconnector
This safety feature prevents movement of the firing pin until the trigger is pulled.
A red dot is visible, indicating the M9 Service Pistol is ready to fire, when the safety lever is in this
position.
Up
Number the steps necessary to reassemble the M9 Service Pistol from fieldstrip in their order of
completion.
1. Insert muzzle of the barrel assembly into the foward open end of the slide. At the
same time, lower the rear of the barrel assembly by aligning the extractor cutout
with the extractor. The locking block will fall into the locked position in the slide.
2. Replace recoil spring and recoil spring guide into slide. Compress assembly by
pushing into slide from rear end. It should rest on barrel.
3. Place slide onto frame, and align track in slide with track in frame. Push slide to rear.
4. Push takedown lever up.
Hold pistol with muzzle slightly elevated. With forefinger, press disassembly button on right side.
Pull slide and barrel assembly forward and remove from receiver.
Slightly compress and lift recoil spring and spring guide from slide. Allow recoil spring to expand slowly.
Push in on locking block plunger while pushing barrel forward slightly. Lift and remove barrel assembly from slide.
Before disassembly, ensure that decocking safety lever is in FIRE (up) position.
False
To remove the floorplate, either use the tip of the 9mm round or use the barrel locking block
plunger.
True
Do not allow hammer to fall with full force by pulling trigger when slide is removed as damage to
receiver may occur. If necessary, hammer should be lowered manually.
True
You don't have to read through entire disassembly procedure before attempting it.
False

Insert muzzle of the barrel assembly into the forward open end of the slide. At the same time, lower the rear of the
barrel assembly by aligning the extractor cutout with the extractor. The locking block will fall into the locked position in
the slide.
Replace recoil spring and recoil spring guide into slide. Compress assembly by pushing into slide from rear end. It
should rest on barrel.
Place slide onto frame, and align track in slide with track in frame. Push slide to rear.
After insertion, magazine spring tension must be maintained using the index finger.

Place lips of magazine tube on hard surface during reassembly
False
The last step for the assembly from fieldstrip is to insert the magazine into the well of the M9
Service Pistol carefully. A click indicates the locked position is achieved.

LOAD
1. With the firing hand firmly gripping the pistol, ensure the pistol is on safe
by pressing the decocking/safety lever down.
2. Rotate the pistol so the magazine well is pointed inboard and angled down.
3. Depress the magazine catch to remove the magazine from the pistol. Catch
the magazine with the non-firing hand and stow on person.
4. Push upward on the slide stop with the firing thumb while maintaining
pressure. Rotate the pistol so the chamber is outboard.
5. Reach over the top of the pistol with the non-firing hand and grasp the
slide serrations. The non-firing hand should partially cover the ejection
port, positioned to catch an ejected round.
6. With the pistol pointed in a safe direction, fully retract the slide and lock it
to the rear. At the same time, catch the ejected round with the non-firing
hand.
7. Rotate the pistol so the inside of the chamber is visible. Visually inspect the
magazine well and chamber to ensure they are empty
UNLOAD
1. Firmly grip the pistol with the firing hand. Ensure the pistol is pointed in a
safe direction, with the slide in the forward position.
2. To facilitate pulling the slide to the rear, rotate the magazine well
outboard. With the fingers and thumb of the non-firing hand, grasp the
serrated sides of the slide just forward of the safety.
3. Pull the slide to its rearmost position by pushing forward with the firing
hand while pulling back on the slide with the non-firing hand.
4. Release the slide. This action will strip a round from the magazine and
chamber it as the slide moves forward.
5. Check to ensure a round has been properly chambered by checking the
extractor/loaded chamber indicator on the right side of the pisto
