CHAPTER 1
THE YFC YOUTH POWER

A. RATIONALE

CFC Youth for Christ is one in the mission of Couples for Christ to be committed
in our mission of “Building the Church of the home and building the church of the poor”.
As one of our identity as YFC’s, our aim is to raise YFC members who are true champions
of the poor. Our call is to live out our deep love for God into action, following Christ’s
example by having a special eye and love for the poor and those who are in need of
experiencing Christ love in their lives.

As YFC’s, our deep love for the poor is our expression of our deep love for God.
We acknowledge that God’s blessings in our lives are something worth sharing to others
especially to those who are in great need. Though there are many means to help others,
we are all called to discovery our own simple yet great ways of showing our love for God
and His people.

B. OVERVIEW

This module will give a clear understanding of how we can further deepen our
desire and passion in serving the poor. It will also help the young to grow further in their
love for God through the social dimension of God’s mission for us, which will enable us
to fully put our faith into action.

This module is conducted in the first year of the YFC 3‐Year Pastoral Formation
Track. This is a whole‐day activity for new YFC members who have undergone the YFC
Youth Camp, Covenant Orientation and Family Culture. This activity is conducted
within the 9th to 12th month after their YFC Youth Camp.

For YFC Community Based, this module should be conducted in the CLUSTER
LEVEL. For High School Based and CAMPUS Based, this activity should be conducted in
the SECTOR LEVEL. This formation activity should be initiated by the Cluster Couple
Coordinator of Community Based and Sector Program Couple Coordinators for the
Campus and High school Based)

The module includes 1 Talk entitled I AM HERO. The talk aims to encourage YFC
members to be good stewards of their time, talent and treasure, thus, becoming true
champions of the poor.


OBJECTIVES

1. For the YFC to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of our mission of
“building the church of the poor”.
2. Provide an opportunity for YFC to be a true champion of the poor.
3. Show that our deep love for God in YFC is also expressed by putting our faith into action.

GUIDELINES AND DYNAMICS

A. SUGGESTED SCHEDULE
Youth Power is intended as a whole day activity.
8:00am – 8:30 Arrival and Registration
8:30 – 8:45 Opening Worship
8:45 – 9:15 Session: I am Hero! (see talk outline)
9:15 – 9:30 Activity Orientation (see talk outline)
9:30 – 10:00 Pre‐ Group Activity
10:00 – 3:00pm Immersion Activity Proper
(Lunch included)
3:00 – 4:00 Big Group Sharing

B. GUIDELINES IN CONDUCTING THE IMMERSION ACTIVITY

1. Choose the appropriate Charitable Institution or venue to conduct the activity.
Be guided by the following guidelines in choosing/ selecting a charitable
institution:
A. What is the vision and mission of the institution? What can YFC do in this
charitable institution to help achieve this?
B. Is the vision and mission of the institution aligned with our community’s
vision and mission to “build the church of the home and build the church of
the poor”?
C. What are the available activities in the charitable institution that we can do
to achieve the goals and objectives of our activity?
D. What do they need? What can we contribute to address these needs?
E. What is the strength of YFC in the area which we can share and give to the
institution?
F. What activities in the institution can we do that will strengthen our goal for
this formation activity?

2. Decide on the Immersion activity to conduct in the chosen charitable
institution. Below are the suggested immersion activities:

Note: There are other available institutions which can be an option in conducting
these activities. Your team can discern the most appropriate and doable venue and
activity in order to achieve the goals and objectives of this formation tracks.

3. Once the venue and activity has been decided by the team, start preparing for
the activity.

C. GUIDELINES IN PREPARING FOR THE YOUTH POWER ACTIVITY

1. This activity should be prepared at least 3 months prior to the target date of the
activity.
2. The YFC Cluster Couple Coordinator (Community Based) and or YFC Sector
Couple Coordinator (Campus/High School) should be the person in‐charge of all
external coordination for the activity. These include meeting the charitable
institution, looking for possible venue, and overseeing the preparation of and
scheduling of the activity.
3. The YFC Cluster Youth Counterpart (Community Based) and Sector Program
Youth Head (Campus/HS) will be in‐charge of other internal preparations
needed for the activity. (E.g. Program dynamics, speakers, activity flow, etc). This
should be properly approved and coordinated with the YFC Couple Coordinator.

4. The Service Team should be aware of the guidelines and policies set the
institution they have chosen to conduct the activity.
5. Activities within the venue should be done with proper coordination with the
chosen institution.
6. It is strongly suggested that the aforementioned activity above be conducted in
the venue of the institution itself. This should therefore be properly coordinated
with the venue prior to their meeting and expectation setting.
7. Participants should bring pack lunch and additional food to share.
8. Registration fee for the activity will vary based on the decided immersion activity
and the chosen charitable institutions. (Aside from monetary registration,
participants MAY be asked to bring other materials such as gift packs, prizes,
give aways, etc.)
9. For Pre‐group, each group will have to talk and discuss the activities they will
undertake.

D. ROLES OF THE SERVICE TEAM
1. Team Leader/Head Facilitator (Cluster Heads and Cluster Couple Coordinators) –
oversees all the committees and coordinates the activities with the Charitable
Institution.
2. Music Ministry – prepares all the musical instruments needed and coordinates
with the worship leaders.
3. Secretariat – prepares the registration form, the list of attendees and other
people involved in the activity.
4. Documentation Team – (YCOM from the cluster) documents the activities and
sessions in photos and videos.
5. Speaker (see profile of Speaker in the talk outline)

Note: The Cluster Heads can delegate these tasks to the YFC Chapter heads with
a chapter couple coordinator as their counterpart

E. MATERIALS AND PROGRAM NEEDS
1. Target venue
2. Sound System
3. Guitar, Beat box etc.
4. YFC‐ID (participants should be asked to wear their YFC IDs for the duration of the
activity.)
5. First Aid Kit
6. Other materials needed for specific activity (build materials, party needs, card
making materials, etc.)


F. ACTIVITY ORIENTATION GUIDELINES
1. The Team Leader/ Head Facilitator will give the orientation for the Immersion/
Activity. (see Orientation Talk Outline below)
2. As a pre‐immersion activity, the participants will then be divided into groups to
prepare for specific task to do or what activity they will conduct‐ (refer to
immersion activity table)
3. Materials needed for pre‐activity should be provided by the team.
4. Facilitator will give final reminders and guidelines before proceeding to the
immersion activity proper.
5. Team leaders instruct each group to choose 1 representative for their group to
be the sharer for the afternoon big group sharing.

G. GUIDELINES IN CONDUCTING THE BIG GROUP SHARING AND
ACTIVITY PROCESSING

1. The processing activity and big group sharing will be done after the Immersion
activity.
2. The Team Leader will lead both activities.
3. For big group sharing, the team leaders call in the group representatives to share
one by one. (depending on the time allotted)
4. For Processing activity, team leaders gives a summary of the sharing’s and
highlight some important experiences for the day using the suggested talking
points below:

1. Our experience this afternoon and for the whole day should not just be a one‐
time big time activity for us. Our experience today is just the beginning of
more opportunities for us to show our love and service for others.
2. We don’t have to do big things in order to become heroes but rather, being a
hero is doing simple acts of love and generosity that will create an impact
in the lives of the poor.
3. We hope that after this activity, we are able to really experience a deeper
understanding and appreciation of our mission of “building the church of
the poor” and a greater way of showing our love for God by truly expressing our
faith in action.

All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions
was his own, but they shared everything they had. (Acts 4:32)

OBJECTIVES:
1. To define our mission in community of “building the Church of the Poor”
2. To challenge the young to make a difference in the lives of others in simple and ordinary
ways.
3. To encourage the young to continue to live out their faith by strengthening their desire
to love and serve others, especially the poor.

SPEAKER’S OUTLINE:
1. The speaker for this activity should be a YFC Program Head/YFC leaders who is deeply
involved in a specific work with the poor.
2. Speaker can also be a YFC Couple Coordinator, who is also serving or working for specific
charitable institution.

DYNAMICS:
1. Worship

EXPANDED TALK OUTLINE:

I. INTRODUCTION: CALLED TO BUILD THE CHURCH OF THE POOR

YFC has been blessed by God through the years. From our vision of renewing
families, and evangelizing the youth, God has led us from glory to glory, from victory to
victory and blessing us with more opportunities to show and express our love to Him.

He has given us the mission not only to build the church of home but also to
“build the church of the poor”. We believe that our experience with Christ is something
we ought to share to others, especially to the poor.

We are called to take care of the poor as our ultimate expression of our deep
love for God and for our neighbors. He is calling us to be champions not only of Christ
but of His people, especially of those who needs to experience Christ the most. To do
this, He wants us to see the poor according to how God sees them.


II. THE POOR IN GOD’S EYES

In our world today, many people are being considered poor. The poor are not
poor because they are lazy. The poor are poor because they lack the opportunities that
most of the rich have; the opportunity of education, employment, business, shelter,
food access.

Yet, God also showed us other meaning of the word “poor”. The poor are not
just those who lack material possession but are those who are in need of support, love,
and an opportunity to experience joy and ultimately Christ.

(THE BEATITUDES; Matthew 5:1‐12)
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be
satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven.

This is how the Lord sees the poor. This is how He also wants us to see them.
God doesn’t just talk about physical poverty but our mission is to address all aspects of
the poverty that deprives them of enjoying the experience of Christ. (emotional poverty,
etc.)

We don’t need to go far to do something to address the needs of the poor. There
are many poor people around us who are in need of our help and as YFC, we are called
to do something and respond to their needs. These are the people in the hospitals, in
the orphanages, in the slums, in the prisons, in our GK sites, to whom we can extend
simple acts of love and generosity that will create a great impact to them.

III. STEWARDS OF OUR TIME, TALENT AND TREASURE

Our call is to be stewards of our resources. According to Webster, a STEWARD is
someone who manages property or other affairs for someone else. As YFC, we are
called to share and be good stewards of our TIME, TALENT AND TREASURE for them.

A. STEWARDS OF OUR TIME – Time is something irreplaceable and constant.
When we give a part of our time to them, we give something that is lasting
and of great value. (ex. Our presence, memories they can remember, the
relationships that we establish with them).

B. STEWARDS OF OUR TALENT – The Lord has given each one of us our unique
talents. We can use our talents to share to others, providing them an
experience to learn and be inspired to grow in their own individual talents as
well. (ex. We don’t hesitate to share our talents with them when we are
asked to do so; we use our talents to build others as well)

C. STEWARDS OF OUR TREASURE – Our treasure are our gifts from God.
Treasures are the things that are important to us. We use our treasure to
help others. (e.g. We use our saved allowance to buy gifts and food for the
needy, etc.)
Being good stewards of our time, talent and treasure allows us to be more
generous and loving. This gives us an opportunity to be our brother’s keeper and
become heroes for others.

IV. CALLED TO BE HEROES

Simple as we are, we have been given the privilege to be the stewards of God’s
flock to perform His goodness to others. We have been called to be heroes in
extraordinary ways; we are:

1. Called to be the change. We can be a source of inspiration that as young as
we are we can do simple things with great impact to others.

2. Called to make a difference. This is our call, a call to put our faith into action.
To act on our expression of our love for God in living less for ourselves and
giving more for others.

3. Called to be Heroes. We can be heroes on our own. Our challenge is to work
with the best that we can offer.

V. CONCLUSION

As YFC, we can be heroes in many simple ways. We can do this by not being
blinded by the negativity of the things around us but instead by shining the light to the
good that resides in all of us. Let us allow the hero in each one of us to shine through.
Let us take the challenge of truly being the hope of the future.

ORIENTATION TALK
YFC YOUTH POWER
(Note: This will be given by the Team Leader prior to the immersion activity proper)

I. Our Call
You heard from the previous talk that we are called to do a specific mission in
order to be true champions of the poor. Our mission to love, share and give to others is
but our expression of our deep love for God. This is what we will be doing in the next
few hours of this day.

Note: In this portion, the team leader presents a video/power point
presentation about the charitable institution they will be going or they will be having
an activity. He/she should be able to explain the vision/mission statement of the
charitable institution as aligned to our community’s work and mission.

The team leader will also explain the dynamics of the activity.

II. Our Posture
As we do this activity this afternoon, we should remember to have the following
posture:

a. Be ready – let us be ready and willing to experience Christ in the place we will go to.
Let us be ready and open to whatever inconvenience we might experience.

b. Be sensitive – let us be sensitive to the needs and nature of the people we will
encounter and experience in the site/institution. Let us be careful with our actions
and our words that can/might offend them. Let us be sensitive to bring Christ to
them.

c. Be loving ‐ let us remember that our goal today is it to bring Christ to them and
experience Christ through them. Let us not fail to express our love for them and
reach out to them. Let us not think of this as a one‐time activity but an activity that
can be the beginning of a long term relationship with them.

III. Be True Champions
Today, God wants us to see Him to the people we will meet in the areas. He
wants us to see those in need according to how He sees us. Let us open our hearts to
what this day will allow us to experience. Let us allow God to speak to us and use us to
be a blessing of Christ to others. Let us be happy, joyful and thankful that God is giving
us an opportunity to be true champions of the poor.
