Awareness

Everyday we are taught to be aware of our surroundings; but, are we aware

of our surroundings, the people we pass by in every day life, our communities and

ourselves? I am beginning to think and realize that in order to live a meaningful life,

as individual we must engage ourselves in a vision that gives love to human beings

and God’s creation. This vision needs to come out of our awareness such as the

things we see, we hear and touch. By allowing ourselves to observe our

surroundings, we become better equipped with what we want to do and how we

want to live our lives. In my pre-trip meeting I am going to explore the following

theories: I am motivated to explore the following theories because I believe that by

allowing ourselves to see the unseen and to hear what we don’t hear, allows us to

engage in dialoguing that makes us understand the choices we make in life.

During the Fr. Momo presentation to the class, he emphysied the importance

of dialoguing. In his presentation he spoke how he came to choose to become a

Vinventian priest. He talked about how St. Vencent DePaul believed that service is a

way of dialoguing. I am impressed with this goal because it makes sense that

services does not only mean to give, it also means to receive. In order to give and be

able to receive we have to know what we are giving and what we are receiving. For

isnstance, going everyday to volunteer at the youth center does not mean that I am

giving my time and the people at the youth center are benefiting from my time. As a
volunteer I have to set up a goal that can produce a vision of what I want to see

being achieved at the site. This involves my talking to the youth at the site and

learning about their needs and at the same time providing them with my vision. The

activities of awareness I will be doing in class includes the following; VIA is all about

dialoguing and to dialogue does not mean to debate and to win but to help us all be

more open to ideas, to share experiences and transformation. I will then explain the

seven simple recommendation Fr. Memo offered after the presentation and I will

then apply the following theories intersectionality and cultural saliency. And finally

included with the activity to invite my classmate to participate intersection and

cultureal interconnected. And then we have a discussions.
