WRITING SENTENCES

PRESENT SIMPLE TENSE

• (has/have) sentence one,(goes) sentence two. She often has a little snack and goes
home.
• -s, -es: goes, presses, works, etc
• to have: has / have
• + (a verb form): She goes to the party.
• - (verb base form): She doesn't go to the party.
• ? (verb base form): Does she go to the party?
• -wh word ? (verb base form): Why does she go to the party?
• There is + uncountable noun / singular countable noun
• There are + countable - plural noun

PAST SIMPLE TENSE

• (had) sentence one, (stayed) sentence two. She had breakfast and stayed home.
• regular verb, irregular verb: walked, painted, cut, ran etc
• to have: had
• + (a verb form): She went to the party.
• - (verb base form): She didn't go to the party.
• ? (verb base form): Did she go to the party?
• -wh word ? (verb base form): When did she go to the party?
• There was + uncountable noun / singular countable noun
• There were + countable plural noun
• (used to + verb base form) sentence one, (verb base form) sentence two. I used to go out
and walk at night. I didn't use to go out and walk at night. I used not to go out and walk at
night.

PRESENT PERFECT TENSE

• (has/have + past participle) sentence one, (past participle) sentence two. She has written
some books on family and traveled a lot.
• to have: has/have + had
• has/ have + regular verb/irregular verb: has walked, have cut, has run, have written..
• + (has/have + past participle): She has gone to many parties.
• - (has/have + past participle): She hasn't gone to many party.
• ? (has/have + subject + past participle): Has she gone to many parties?
• -wh word ? (past participle): Why has she gone to the party?
• There has been + uncountable noun / singular plural noun
• There have been + countable plural noun

PAST PERFECT TENSE

• (had + past participle) sentence one, (past participle) sentence two. She had written
some books on family and traveled a lot before dying.
• to have: had + past participle
• had + regular verb, irregular verb: had walked, had painted, had cut, had run...
• + (had + past participle): She had gone to many parties before dying.
• - (had + past participle): She hadn't gone to many party before dying.
• ? (had + subject + past participle): Had she gone to many parties before dying?
• -wh word ? (past participle): Why had she gone to the party before dying?
