Fieldwork tour On the border Sunday 18th of march:

The beautiful secrets of the border from the Netherlands and


Belgium. With their tremendous nature landscape and the
mysteriously little villages.

1. Abdij van Postel: Postel is a


very small village near the
border. One of the last abbey’s
in Belgium stand over there.
We going to visit this abbey
and I will going to tell a story
about history and religion of
the abbey and the apostles
who lived for many centuries.
Also we will visit the abbey’s
shop where you can buy a lot
of handmade stuff like cheese,
bread, beer and homeopathic
medicines.
2. De Lommelse Sahara: An
official National Park. A very big
landscape it exist of sand. In the
middle of the 191m2 field there is
little blue lake where are live very
exceptionally black swans. We
going to look their for a copple of
minutes.

3. Rise of the river the Aa: We are


going to the highest ground in
Brabant (our province) it’s lying
very close to the border and it calls
Riebosserheide. The river the Aa
are rise their on more than 46
meters above sealevel.
4. De grote en kleine cirkel te
Reusel (Big and little circle): There
was a architect who was inspirated by
the architecture of Paris. He built a big
circle which were very important for
the soldiers in the WOII, to navigated
themselves, because the circles are
lying ‘on’ the border. Also there is a
big monument made from stones that
remember the people to the 8 little villages in the environment, calls
‘De acht zaligheden’. In the languages of the people ‘the eight lovely
ones’.

5. Grafheuvels op de Toterfout (grave-mound): Their many many


grave-mounds in the environment of the border. They go back to
6000 years before C. I will show them some special grave-mounds
and would tell him that in the past a lot of people thought that their
lived elfs.

6. Eindhoven: I will explain why Eindhoven stays under water when


its rain very hard. It becomes to all the rivers who are their because
Eindhoven is the lowest place in the region. Also I will show him the
first Philips-factory from Eindhoven 1905. Before that time there
was no Eindhoven but only 6 little villages.
