NAGA CITY HISTORY Naga City had a prosperous history.

It did not start to flourish because of the coming of colonizers, but rather to the very villagers living there. History says that Naga had been very rich in culture and very sophisticated in arms and weaponry. This had come to flourish more, during the Spanish colonial era. Naga became active in trade and education. In 1573, the place of Naga was named Naga (Narra) because there were many Narra trees there. During the American the rule, Naga became a municipality. It became a city in December 15, 1948 by virtue of R.A. 305. The city, since the beginning, is a strategic place for trade, schools, church, and government offices. It is located at the middle of Bicol wherein it is surrounded as well with rich agriculture, forest and fishing areas. The population of Naga City has been increasing by more than four thousand every year. From 2007, the city has a population of 160,516, and up to last year, the population increased to 168,149.
