ALGAE BASED CO2 CAPTURE

PREFACE
Algae Why algae? Algae based CO2 capture Process of CO2 capture Comparison Challenges to be faced End products of algae Benefits

ALGAES
Algae are one of the important species on earth They produce more oxygen than all other plants They are food source for some animals We will be able to produce biofuel from its processing They can fix CO2 in atmosphere

WHY ALGAE?
Pollutants such as CO2 and NO2 can be controlled using algae Algae use these as nutrients for its growth They consume CO2 a lot and that s we need About 1.8 tons of CO2 required to produce 1 ton algae A coal power plant produces 1 ton co2 for every MW of energy produced Monetary benefits from algae processing

ALGAE BASED CO2 CAPTURE

PROCESS OF CO2 CAPTURE

COMPARISON
Algae based CO2 capture Biological way Permanent sequestration Productive reprocessing of algae Requires more land area Setting up an algae CO2 capture plant costs much Eco-friendly Conventional capture methods Machine way Temporary capture No productive reprocessing Not much of a land area needed Comparatively less cost Non eco-friendly

CHALLENGES TO BE FACED
The high cost of implementing the sequestration infrastructure The limited availability of land space near power plants for building algae systems There are some specific operational problems as well, which could result in significant inefficiencies. For instance, the algal concentration may become acidic on high CO2 concentration

END PRODUCTS OF ALGAE

BENEFITS
Sustainable Ensures safety Eliminates transportation of CO2 Biodiesel Generates biomass Additional revenues
