Measuring the volume of a small irregular-shaped object that floats on water
(mengukur volume benda kecil yang tidak teratur)
-use a sinker
(an object that sinks)
V=V;-Vo
Level of weight
V;= Level of weight and sinker
The volume of the irregular-shaped object,
Vis the difference between the two water
level readings and
is given V=Vs -Vo
So, volume the object
V=Vp -V, = 50 mL—38 ml
2 mL
‘When the water stops flowing into the measuring cylinder, observe and record the volume of water displaced
by the object and collected in the measuring cylinder. The volume of the water in the measuring cylinder is
equal to the volume of the irregular-shaped object.
So volume of object is 10 ml (see the menasuring cylinder)
For irregular surfaces, their areas can be estimated by first dividing them into small unit squares and
counting them.
‘An incomplete square is counted as one if ts area is more than or equal to half of the area of a unit
square. If areas of the incomplete square are less than half, they are not counted.
