OBSERVATION REPORT
Name of the School Observed Siena College of Taytay Location of the School E. Rodriguez Ave., Brgy. San Isidro, Taytay, Rizal Date of Visit August 4, 2011 _____________________________________________________________________ As I have observed three (3) bulletin boards, I have found that they are in unnoticeable areas. The bulletin boards I observed were of the IHM department, the BSBA department, and the BSE department of Siena College. The displays were all about events, upcoming and past ones. Some posts were trivia about the subject or course major, information about the seminars taken and to be taken. Also, the officers of the department councils and the announcements or poll questions. The pieces were arranged according to its chronological order. From the most important to the least. There were various materials used. Some were recycled and some were new, like styro foams, colored papers, images and cut-out words. There were no borders used. I have not noticed any errors with the posts, because there were not much written narratives, just plain reminders, announcements and trivia. The messages were clear and easy to understand.

(Option 2) Bulletin Board Evaluated by: Arce, Carla Margarita C. Location: Hallway, in between St. Catherine Bldg. and St. Thomas Bldg. Brief Description of the Bulletin Board: The bulletin board of the Education department is rich with its design. The colors were not monotonous and the written information and other announcements were clear and easy to read. EVALUATION Strengths The design (owl character), the colors used and the balance of figures. Weaknesses Because of its enormous owl figure, the texts written around are no longer motivating to be read.
Observations:
The trivia posted were good and informative. Announcements were easily seen or read.
However, the trivia were old and long known by the students.
Recommendation or Suggestions for Improvement: The content of the bulletin must improve. Focus with one thing only and not put so much stuffs on the board. The design was surely spot on. The texts must be larger in size and motivating.
Your Analysis
2. Was the language used clear and simple for the target
audience to understand? Why? Why not? The language used English, is clear and easy to understand for the readers.
3. What do you think was the purpose of the board display? Was
it effective? Why? Why not? The purpose of the bulletin was to inform students of the department and other departments as well of the current events held and what is their course all about. 4. What suggestions can you make? I suggest, that they make their drawings smaller and their texts bigger.
Based on your suggestions, propose an enhanced version of the display board. Use the form below.
5
Board Title: Calendar of Activities Rationale (Purpose): To inform students upcoming activities of not only the education department, but the entire college department as well.
Best features of my proposed bulletin enhancement: The sizes of the texts are equal to the images or figures. Content Resources (Name each needed resource and give each a brief description) Calendar of Activities of the College Department from the Deans Office Proposed and Confirmed Activities for the Department for the whole semester from the Education Department Council
Materials for aesthetic enhancement: Cork board or styro foam Colored Paper Coloring Materials Cutting and pasting materials Cut-out images and texts.
(Optional Activity) Based on your suggestions, make your own board display lay-out. You may present your output through any of these:
A hand-made drawing or layout An electronic (computer) drawing/illustration or layout A collage
Your Reflections
1. Name at least 5 skills that a teacher should have to be able to come up with effective board displays. Elaborate on why each skill is needed. Artistic and Creativity skills to be able to come up with the most attractive and effective board display 2. Which of the skills do you already have? Recall your past experiences in making board displays. How do you practice these skills?
7
I am confident that I have both of the skills mentioned above. I have designed the Education Departments bulletin last semester and contributed my idea to the current bulletin board of the College Student Council. 3. Which skills do you still need to develop? Reflect on how you can improve on or acquire these skills? Perhaps, enhance my creativity skills and drawing skills. I was never good in drawing, that is why
