Jonah Part 1: The Mission Of God

Jonah 1:1-2
1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.

A Pattern of Mission:
Seeking v8 Speaking v14 following Serving v21 Saving v16 Sending (later in Genesis 11 and beyond)

Read through Genesis 3 and consider the above pattern.

In The Ministry of Jesus:

(a) Seeking For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost. Luke 19:10 Also:Luke 15 - The Sheep, The Coin and The Brother - Spot the Difference?? (b) Speaking Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 The time has come, he said. The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news! Mark 1:14-15 (c) Serving Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (d) Saving She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[c] because he will save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 (e) Sending We see Jesus himself do the sending... As he says, he has the authority to do so.... Matthew 28:16-20 John 20:21-23 Luke 24:45-49 & Acts 1:8

Maybe you can add some more examples to this list.

Think
Contrast Jonah and Jesus as Missionaries. How might you seek, speak, and serve that God would save? As a congregation when do we act as a sending church? Who do you think God has sent you to?
