TEACHING EXPERIENCE
First Grade - Damascus Community School, Syria
Plan and teach all subjects to first grade students, some of whom have limited or no English
skills. Write standards based writing and math units based on the learning outcomes for first
grade. Use leveled reading and math groups to meet the varying levels of the students. For 2
years co-planned and taught with the other 1st grade teacher. (August 2002 – present)

First Grade – Treasure Forest Elementary, Houston, Texas


For 2 years, taught students who were culturally and economically diverse in a self-contained
classroom. Implemented components of a balanced literacy program and instructed students in
leveled reading groups. (2000 – 2002)

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

Math Curriculum Team


Worked collaboratively to create a school-wide mission statement for math. Helped to develop
school wide standards and grade level benchmarks for the school. Reviewed and adopted
materials to reinforce standards (Everyday Math). (August 2003 – May 2004)

Accreditation Team
Worked with a team of teachers, parents, administration, and local community to identify the
school strengths and weaknesses and developed personal improvement plans for growth of the
school. (Spring 2005 – Present)

Student Life Team


Group planned and coordinated all student activities academically and extracurricular.
Included: Year long house team events that comprised teams across the grade level to support
educational goals (book month contests, math week) and to compete academically (game shows
and being caught following school rules) and socially (relays and cooperative activities). Team
also planned student and teacher performances and community time meetings with elementary
students. (Fall 2004 – present)

Elementary Musical
Helped write and direct a group of 60 elementary students in two performances of the Wizard of
Oz. (Spring 2005)

Elementary After School Activities


Planned and facilitated after school activities for all grade levels. (Fall 2002 – present)
