UNIT 1, page 13. Exercises 5 and 6 Frank: This is a great camping trip. Im really enjoying myself. How about you, Robert? Robert: Its OK, Frank. I dont really like sleeping outdoors, though. There are so many noises in the forest! Like that one-what was that? Frank: Its nothing its just a wolf howling. Robert: Well, if its trying to scare me, its succeeding. Frank; Dont be silly. It isn0t trying to scare you, Robert. Wolves howl! Thats how they tell other animals where they are. Look, I think we can set up our tent under that tree. Robert: Wait, Frank! What are those marks on the tree? They look like scratches. Frank: Oh, those are bear marks. Its one of the ways bears communicate with each other in the forest. They make marks on trees. Didnt you know that, Robert? Robert: No Frank, I didnt. Why do they do that? Frank: Well, a bear scratches a tree with its nails to show everyone how tall it is. Tigers in the jungle do it, too they also make marks on trees. The bears do it to warm other, smaller bears. If a bear cant reach the marks on the tree, it knows it needs to leave the bigger bear alone. Robert: Thats what I think we should do leave the bear alone and get out of here! Come on, Frank! Lets go.
