CHAPTER III COMMUNITY HISTORY In 1993 the national government gave land to the people that had been

damage by the flood, it is estimated almost 69 families. Another 32 families had been moved somewhere in Lagao to Purok 12 Barangay Fatima Uhaw because of the demolition to the squatters. After few years staying at Purok 12 they called the place NASA (Neighborhood Assistance Shelter Associaton) because of the help of the government. A year had passed another 60 families evacuated coming from Makar Road because of demolition on the squatters in that area, then Mayor of General Santos which is Mayor Nunez noticed that the population of the NASA or Purok 12 had increased then they immediately made a project which is to construct a family housing to provide shelter for the people to be transferred, then 69 families was given a free shelter by the project. In order to organize the community the community people choose leaders to their purok , they had chosen Mr. Noel Punay as their purok leader, in 1997 Mr. Noel Punay thought to had their own elementary school because of the distance of the schools from their purok so Mr. Noel Punay beg for an elementary school for the purok. The mayor approved their request and the NASA Elementary School was constructed the people of purok 12 is happy because the school is near and it is safe for the children to go to school.
