CONSERVATION

OF
FOREST AND WILD LIFE
Objectives of conservation of the
wild life:

• 1.To maintain essential ecological processes and life-

supporting systems.
• 2.To preserve the diversity of species or the range of
genetic material of world’s organisms.
• 3.To ensure a continuous use of species, in fact
ecosystems, that support rural communities and urban
industries.
WILD LIFE

• The term wild life is generally held to include

large well known ferocious animal such as lion,
tiger, elephants, deer, rhinoceros, whale and
crocodiles. Actually, however, it refers to all
organisms living in nature, except, of course, the
cultivated plants and domesticated animal. All
biotic resources are renewable.
Conservation of wild life:

• Conservation means the management of man’s use

of the biosphere is such a way that maximum
benefit accrues from it to the present generation
while maintaining its potential to meet the
requirements of the future generations. In short, it is
the technique of deriving maximum advantage from
the biosphere without in any way degrading it.
FORESTS
FORESTS

• A forest is a biotic community composed predominantly

of trees, shrubs and woody climbers, and often with a
closed canopy.

• 1.Fuel
• 2.Timber
• 3.Paper
• 4.Bamboos
• 5.Rayon
Conservation of forests:

Man has now realized the importance of forests and the

need for their conservation. the ides of growing trees as
regular crop is fast spreading. Foresters agree that all
our requirements of wood can be met if the forest
conservation programmers are properly implemented.
Forest management

• Forests should be properly managed and looked after.

Noncommercial trees, old dying trees, trees damaged
by storms and animals, diseased trees and crooked
trees should removed. This operation is called
improvement cutting. As the timber trees mature, they
should be cut off for use. This is called selective cutting.
It is batter to remove the less vigorous trees should be
replaced by new ones quickly. Forest floor littered with
fallen trees and broken branches should be cleared.
Forestation programs

• Many afford-station programmers have been taken

in hand by central and state governments.
