Ange ُ َ الغَض: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ب ِجَمرَةٌ مِن الشيطان
The Prophet of God (s) said:
The Anger is the spark (lit) from Satan.
[Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 73, p. 265, hadith # 15]
ِ مِن أحَبّ السّبي: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ل جُرعَةُ غَيظٍ تَرُدّها: ِإلَى الِّ عَزّوجلّ جُرعَتان ٍ وجَرعَةُ مُصيبَةٍ تَرُدّها بِصَبر، ٍبِحِلم
The Prophet of God (s) said: In
the love of the way leading to God, there are two sips of drinks: the drink of anger that you overcome with forbearance, and the drink of calamity that [Al-Kafi, vol.you 2, p. 110] overcome ...: َ إنّ ال َغضَب: قالَ رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله وإنّما، ِ وإنّ الشيطانَ خُلِقَ مِن النار، مِن الشّيطان ْضبَ أحَدُكم فَلْيَتَ َوضّأ ِ غ َ فإذا، ِتُطفَأُ النارُ بالماء
The Prophet of God (s) said:
Anger is from Satan (devil), and Satan is created from fire, and fire is quenched with water, thus when anyone of you is overcome with anger, he should [Al-Targhibperform wudhu wal-Tarhib, vol. 3, p. 452] : - ٌ لَمّا استَوصاهُ رجُل- رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله فَفَكّرتُ حِينَ قالَ رسولُ الِّ صلى: َ قال، ْل تَغضَب ُ فإذا ال َغضَبُ يَجمَعُ الشّرّ كُلّه، َال عليه وآله ما قال
Prophet of God (s) while
responding to a person who sought an advice, said: ‘Give up anger’. This person says that while the Prophet (s) was speaking, I thought that [Al-Targhib wal-Tarhib, vol. 3, p. 445] ُ َ الغَض: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ب َسدُ الخَلّ العَسَل ِ يُفسِدُ اليمانَ كما يُف
Prophet of God (s) said:
Anger destroys faith in the same manner as vinegar destroys honey. [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 73, p. 267, hadith # 22] إنّ لِجَهَنّمَ بابًا: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ل يَدخُلُها إلّ مَن شَفى غَيظَهُ بمَعصيَةِ الِّ تعالى
The Prophet of God (s)
said: There is a door in Hell through which no one will enter except the person who used to get angry while disobeying God, the [Al-Tanbih al-Khawatir, vol.1, p. 98] : ٌ لَمّا سَألَهُ رَجُل- رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ْ ل تَغضَب: - ِّحبّ أن أكُونَ آمِناً مِن سَخَطِ ال ِ ُا ُغضَبَ الِّ وسَخَطَه َ ْعلى أحَدٍ تَأمَن
The Prophet of God (s) when
asked by a man that he loved to remain safe from the anger of God, said: Don’t get angry on anyone and you will be safeguarded from the anger [Kanz al-Ummal, hadith # 44154] فإذا، ْ لتَغضَب، ّ يا علي: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ، غَضِبتَ فَاقعُدْ وتَفَكّرْ في قُدرَةِ الرّبّ علَى العِبادِ وحِلمِهِ عَنهُم َ وراجِعْ حِل َمك، َ اِ ّتقِ الَّ فَانبِذْ غَضَ َبك: َوإذا قيلَ لك
The Prophet of God (s) said: O
Ali ! Never be overpowered by anger, and if you get angry, sit down, and reflect that Lord, in spite of His unlimited power over His servants, is so tolerant towards them. And when it is said to you: ‘Be[Tuhuf afraid of al-Uqool, p. 14] God’ then ن هذا الغَضَبَ جَمرَةٌ مِنّ إ: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله َحدَكُم إذا غَضِبَ وإنّ أ، َالشيطانِ تَتَ َو ّقدُ في قَلبِ ابنِ آدم ِخلَ الشيطانُ فيهَ َ ود، ُ وانتَفَخَت أوداجُه، ُاحمَرّت عَيناه
The Prophet of God (s) said:
This anger is a spark from Satan that burns in the heart of son of Adam (human being), and when anyone of you gets angry, then his eyes become red, his veins swell and Satan [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 5, p. 267, hadith # 21] ما الصّرَعَ ُة فيكُم ؟: - ِ لصحابه- عنه صلى ال عليه وآله ُ بلِ الصّرَعَة: ل َ فقا، ُي الذي ل يُوضَعُ جَنبُه ّ الشّدي ُد القَو: قالوا َق الصّرَعَةِ رَجُلٌ وَكَزَ الشيطانُ في قَلبِ ِه واشتَدّ غَضبُهُ وظَهَر ّ َح ُ ثُمّ ذَكَرَ الَّ فَصَرَعَ بحِلمِهِ غَضَبَه، دَمُ ُه The Prophet of God (s) asked his companions: Who is the best wrestler among you ? They replied: Whoever wouldn't fall on his back over ground is the most powerful. The Prophet (s) then said: No ! In reality the most powerful wrestler is the person who, when provoked by the spark of Satan in his heart to become severely angry and when his complexion isal-Anwar, [Bihar reddened byhadith vol. 77, p. 150, it,#remembers 86] ّ الصّرَعَةُ ك، ِ الصّرَعَةُ كُلّ الصّرَعَة: عنه صلى ال عليه وآله ل ّجلُ الذي يَغضَبُ فَيَش َتد ُ ّ الر: ِ الصّرَعةُ كلّ الصّرَعة، ِالصّرَعة ُ فَيَصرَعُ غَضَبَه، ُ ويَقشَعِرّ جِلدُه، ُ ويَحمَرّ وَجهُه، ُغَضَبُه The Prophet of God (s) said: The most powerful wrestler of the all the wrestlers ! the most powerful wrestler of the all the wrestlers ! the most powerful wrestler of the all the wrestlers ! The Prophet of God (s) said:
No sip of drink that a servant drinks is best in its excellence near to God, that is the drink of anger which he drinks for the happiness [Kanz al-Ummal, hadith # 5819] شدّكم َ أ: ً لَمّا رَأى قَوماً يَدحُونَ حَجَرا- عنه صلى ال عليه وآله ِ وأحمَلُكُم مَن عَفا بعدَ المَقدِرَة، ِمَن مََلكَ نفسَهُ عندَ الغَضَب
The Prophet of God (s), when he
came out one day, and saw some people lifting a heavy stone, said to them: The most powerful among you is the one who is able to control himself when anger takes over him and most forbearing among you is the one who, [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 77,when p. 148, hadith he # 67] has ُ َ إذا ذَكَرَنِي عَبدِي حينَ يَغض: أوحَى الُّ إلى داودَعليه السلم ب ُ ول أمحَقُهُ فِيمَن أمحَق، ذَكَرتُهُ يومَ القِيامَةِ في جَميعِ خَلقِي،
The Prophet of God (s) said:
God sent revelation to Dawood (a): When my servant remembers me while (he is) in anger, on the Day of Judgment I will remember him among all my creatures and will not let him among [Bihar al-Anwar,the perished vol. 73, p. 266, hadith # 18] ones مَن كَفّ غَضَبَ ُه: عنه صلى ال عليه وآله ُكَفّ الُّ عَنهُ عَذابَه
The Prophet of God (s)
said: “One who restrains his anger (towards someone), God will refrain chastisement from him. [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 73, p. 263, hadith # 7] غضِبَ أحَدُكم وهو َ إذا: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ْ فإن ذَهَبَ عَنهُ ال َغضَبُ وإلّ فَليَضطَجِع، ْقائمٌ فَلْيَجلِس
The Prophet of God (s)
said: When anyone of you is overpowered by anger, if he is standing, he should sit down. Then if still anger is not overcome, he should [Al-Tanbih al-Khawatir, vol. 3, p. 450] ضبَ جَمرَ ٌة َ َ أل وإنّ الغ: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ِ أما رَأيتُم إلى حُمرَةِ عَينَيهِ وانتِفاخ، َفي قَلبِ ابنِ آدم ِأوداجِهِ ؟! فَمَن أحَسّ بِشيءٍ مِن ذلكَ فَلْيَلصَقْ بالرض
The Prophet of God (s) said:
Beware that anger is the spark lit in the heart of son of Adam. Haven't you seen this in the red eyes of angered and his swollen veins ? Thus when one feels that anger is approaching him, [Al-Tanbih al-Khawatir, vol. 3, p. 448] he أل اُخبِرُكُم: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ِبِأشَدّكُم ؟ مَن َملَكَ نفسَهُ عِندَ الغَضَب
The Prophet of God (s) said:
Shouldn’t I tell you who is the most powerful among you ? The one who controls himself while in the state of anger. [Mizan al-Hikmah, hadith # 15014] مَن كَظَ َم: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ًغَيظاً مَلَ الُّ جَوفَهُ إيمانا
The Prophet of God (s) said:
The one who overcomes his anger, God will fill his inside (heart) with faith. [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 25, p. 411, hadith # 71] ليسَ الشّدي ُد: رسولُ الِّ صلى ال عليه وآله ِ إنّما الشّديدُ الذي يَمِلكُ نفسَهُ عندَ الغَضَب، ِبالصّرَعَة
The Prophet of God (s) said:
A wrestler is not powerful, (rather) in reality, powerful is the one who controls himself when he is in anger. [Al-Tanbih al-Khawatir, vol. 1, p. 99] ُ الغَضَبُ مِفتا: الما ُم الصّادق عليه السلم ح ّكُلّ شَر
Imam al-Sadiq (a)
said: Anger is key to all kinds of vices. [Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 303, hadith # 3] الغَضَبُ يُثِي ُر: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ِكَوامِنَ الحِقد
Imam Ali (a) said: Anger
provokes hidden malice.
[Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 1220]
الغَضَبُ شَرّ إن أطَعتَهُ دَمّ َر: عنه عليه السلم
Imam Ali (a) said: Anger is
such an evil that if followed, will lead to destruction.

Imam Ali (a) said: With
excessive (or repeated) anger, the wisdom is lost.

Imam Ali (a) said: Anger
destroys the one who possesses it and discloses his shortcomings. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 4417] َ ّ مَن أطلَقَ غَضَبَهُ تَعَج: عنه عليه السلم ل ُحَتفَه
Imam Ali (a) said: The
one who leaves his anger loose, his destruction comes very fast. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 7948] : ُ بِئسَ القَرِينُ الغَضَب: عنه عليه السلم َ ويُباعِدُ الخَير، ّ ويُدنِي الشّر، َيُبدِي المَعائب
Imam Ali (a) said: What a
bad companion anger is ! It reveals faults, brings evil nearer and keeps good away. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 1709] إنّكم إن أطَعتُم سَورَ َة: عنه عليه السلم ِالغَضَبِ أورَدَتكُم نِهايَةَ العَطَب
Imam Ali (a) said: If you are
taken away by the tide of anger than it will take you towards the last limits of destruction. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 4264] ، ِ احتَرِسُوا مِن سَورَةِ ال َغضَب: عنه عليه السلم ِوأعِدّوا لَهُ ما تُجاهِدُونَهُ بهِ مِن الكَظمِ والحِلم
Imam Ali (a) said: Keep
yourself protected from the attack of anger and take it as your enemy with whom you fight with suppression and forbearance. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 808] ُ َ الغَض: المامُ الصّادق عليه السلم ب ِمَمحَقَةٌ لِقَلبِ الحَكيم
Imam al-Sadiq (a) said:
Anger makes the heart of a wise person, dead.
[Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 305, hadith # 13]
ل نَسَبَ أوضَ ُع: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ِمِن الغَضَب
Imam Ali (a) said: There is
no relationship worse than anger. [Amali al-Sadduq, p. 264, hadith # 9] ِ عُقوبَ ُة الغَضُو: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ب !والحَقُودِ والحَسُودِ تَبدَأُ بأنفُسِهِم
Imam Ali (a) said: The
punishment for the angry, malicious and the envious starts within their own souls. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 6325] مِن طَبائعِ الجُهّال: عنه عليه السلم ٍالتّسَرّعُ إلَى الغَضَبِ في كُلّ حال
Imam Ali (a) said: It is the
habit of ignorant persons to become angry (over minor issues) all the time. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 10793] ل َيقُومُ عِزّ ال َغضَبِ بِذُلّ العتِذا ِر: عنه عليه السلم
Imam Ali (a) said: The
respect a person enjoys on controlling his anger cannot be equal to the excuse he offers (to someone) after he was angry. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 9351] ِ الغَضَبُ نارُ القُلو: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ب
Imam Ali (a) said:
Anger is the fire of hearts. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 1787] مَن، ٌ ال َغضَبُ نارٌ مُوقَدَة: عنه عليه السلم ومَن أطلَقَهُ كانَ أوّلَ مُحتَرِقٍ بها، كَظَمَهُ أطفَأها
Imam Ali (a) said: Anger is
a raging fire, the one who controls it, quenches it and the one who leaves it free is the first one to be [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 965] - ّ مِن كتابٍ لَهُ إلَى الحارِثِ الهَمْداني- عنه عليه السلم َضبَ ؛ فإنّه جُندٌ عَظيمٌ مِن جُنودِ إبليسَ َ واحذَرِ الغ:
Imam Ali (a), in a letter to
Harith al-Hamdani, wrote: ...Be afraid of anger, for it is an army among the armies of Satan. [Nahjul Balagha, saying # 69] ، َ إيّاك والغَضَب: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ٌفَأ ّولُهُ جُنونٌ وآخِرُهُ َندَم
Imam Ali (a) said: Protect
yourself from anger for its beginning is insanity and its end is remorse. [Gharar ul-Hikam wa darar ul-Kalim, hadith # 2635] ّ الحِدّةُ ضَربٌ مِن الجُنونِ ل: عنه عليه السلم ن ٌ فإن لَم يَندَمْ فَجُنُونُهُ مُستَحكِم، ُصاحِبَها يَندَم
Imam Ali (a) said: Anger is a
kind of insanity because the one who gets angry feels regret and if he doesn't then his insanity is established. [Nahjul Balagha, saying # 255] ، َسدُ اللباب ِ الغَضَبُ يُف: عنه عليه السلم ِويُبعِدُ مِن الصّواب
Imam Ali (a) said: Anger
corrupts one’s intellect, takes one away from path of righteousness. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 3047] ِ أقدَرُ الناسِ علَى الصّوا: عنه عليه السلم ب ْمَن لَم يَغضَب
Imam Ali (a) said: The most
righteous and aware among people is the one who doesn’t get angry. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 1356] ْ ِ مَن لَم يَمل: المامُ الصّادق عليه السلم ك ُغَضَبَهُ لَم يَملِكْ عَقلَه
Imam Al-Sadiq (a) said:
The one who cannot control his anger also cannot control (the power of) his intellect [Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 305, hadith # 13] شِدّةُ ال َغضَبِ تُغَيّ ُر: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم َ وتُفَرّقُ الفَهم، ِ وتَقطَعُ مادّةَ الحُجّة، َالمَنطِق
Imam Ali (a) said: The
severity of anger alters logical reasoning, cuts off the foundation of authentic argument and scatters the ability to understand and [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 71, p. 428] ُ أفضَلُ المِلكِ مِل: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ك ِالغَضَب
Imam Ali (a) said: The best
of abilities is (the ability) to control anger.
[Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 1337]
أحضَرُ الناسِ جَواباً مَن: عنه عليه السلم ْلَم يَغضَب
Imam Ali (a) said: The
best prepared among the people to reply is the one who doesn’t get angry. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 3269] ُ أشرَفُ المُروءَةِ مِل: عنه عليه السلم ك ِالغَضَبِ وإماتَةُ الشّهوَة
Imam Ali (a) said: The
excellence of honor is to control anger and kill excessive desires.
[Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 6048-6049]
magnificent among people is the one who has complete authority over himself, who he kills his anger and puts to death his [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 5931] ُ رَأسُ الفَضائلِ مِل: عنه عليه السلم ك ِالغَضَبِ وإماتَةُ الشّهوَة
Imam Ali (a) said: The
fountainhead of all excellences is to control anger and kill excessive desires. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 5237] ِ ِ ضَبطُ النّفسِ عِندَ حاد: عنه عليه السلم ث ِالغَضَبِ يُؤمِنُ مَواقِعَ العَطَب
Imam Ali (a) said: Controlling
oneself when anger strikes, protects (a person) during situations causing harm. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 3259] َ َغل ب َ ظَفِرَ بالشيطانِ مَن: عنه عليه السلم ُ ظَفِرَ الشيطانُ بِمَن َملَكَهُ غَضَبُه، ُغَضَبَه
Imam Ali (a) said: Satan
wins over the one who is overcome by anger and the one who wins over Satan is the person who overcomes [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 3102] غضَبُ ُه َ ِ أعدَى عَدُوّ لِلمَرء: عنه عليه السلم ُ وبَلَغَ غايَتَه، ُ فَمَن مَلَكَهُما عَلَت درجَتُه، ُوشَهوَتُه
Imam Ali (a) said: The worst
enemies (of human beings) are anger and desires, thus, whoever is able to control them, attains a high station and accomplishes his [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 2950] َ َ الغَضَبُ عَدُوّ فل تُ َملّكْهُ نفس:عنه عليه السلم ك
Imam Ali (a) said: Anger is
your enemy so don’t let it take control of yourself.
[Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 2904]
غلَبَ علَي ِه َ مَن: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ِغَضَبُهُ وشَهوَتُهُ فهُو في حَيّزِ البَهائم
Imam Ali (a) said: The one
who is overcome by his anger and desires is among the beasts of locality. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 8756] ْ اِمِل: - َ مِنكتابٍ لَهُ للشتَرِ لَمّا وَلّه مِصر- عنه عليه السلم ك ،َ وغَربَ لسا ِنك،َ وسَطوَةَ َي ِدك،َح ّدك َ َ وسَورَة،َحَمِيّةَ أن ِفك .....،ِ وتَأخِيرِ السّطوَة، ِواحتَرِسْ مِن كُلّ ذلكَ بكَفّ البادِرَة Imam Ali (a) in his letter to Malik Ashtar when he appointed him as governor of Egypt, wrote: …Take care and keep control over your temper, your anger and your desire to be arrogant and vain. Take care of your hands when you are out to deliver punishment and of the sharpness of #your [Nahjul Balagha, saying 53]… tongue َ ُ وارفَعْ بَصَ َركَ إلَى السماءِ عندَ ما يَحضُ ُركَ مِنهُ حتّى يَسك... ن َسكَ حتّى تُكثِر ِ ولَن تُحكِ َم ذلكَ مِن نف،َغَضَ ُبكَ فَتَمِلكَ الختِيار َهُمُو َمكَ ِبذِكرِ المَعادِ إليرَ ّبك …The best way to achieve this is not to be hasty in making remarks and to delay in delivering punishment so that you may keep your temper under control and are not overexcited. And you cannot achieve this unless you [Tuhuf al-Uqool, p. 148] [Nahjul Balagha, saying # 53] أقوَى الناسِ مَن: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ِقَوِيَ عَلى غَضبِهِ بِحِلمِه
Imam Ali (a) said: The
most powerful person among people is the one who is victorious over his anger with his [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 3182] ِ َ ل قُوّةَ كَ َردّ الغَض: الما ُم الباقرُ عليه السلم ب
Imam Al-Baqir (a) said:
There is no power (similar to) repelling the anger.
[Tuhuf al-Uqool, p. 286]
مَن كَظَمَ غَيظاً وهو يَقدِ ُر: المامُ الباقرُ عليه السلم ِعلى إمضائهِ حَشا الُّ قَلبَهُ أمناً وإيماناً يومَ القِيامَة
Imam Al-Baqir (a) said: The

Imam Al-Sadiq (a) said: The

Imam Ali (a) said: The one
who fears God will never take revenge by his anger

Imam Al-Sadiq (a) said: The
best drink for a person is that of anger which he drinks with patience. [Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 109, hadith # 4] ما مِن جُرعَ ٍة: المامُ الصّادق عليه السلم ٍيَتَجَرّعُهاالعَبدُ أحَبّإلَىالِّ عَزّوجلّمِنجُرعَةِ غَيظ ٍ إمّا بِصَبرٍ وإمّا بِحِلم، ِيَتَجَرّعُها عِندَ تَرَدّدِها في قَلبِه
Imam Al-Sadiq (a) said: The
best drink that a servant drinks which is loved by God, the all- powerful and the magnificent, among all the drinks is that of anger, which when gets into his heart, he[Al-Kafi, repelsvol. 2, p. 109,it with hadith # 1] either ِ مِن كتابٍ لَهُ إلَى الحار- المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ث ، ِ وتَجاوَزْ عندَ المَقدِرَة، َ وَاكظِمِ الغَيظ: - ّالهَمْداني ُ واصفَحْ مَع الدّولَةِ ؛ تَكُنْ لكَ العاقِبَة، ِواحلُمْ عندَ ال َغضَب Imam Ali (a) in a letter to Harith Hamdani wrote: …And overcome your high temper, don’t exceed limits while you have authority, practice forbearance when you are in anger, and forgive (often) while you govern, [Nahjul Balagha, saying #so 69] for you ٍ مَن طَلَبَ شِفا غَي: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ظ ّ أذاقَهُ الُّ هَواناً بِحَق، ّبغَيرِ حَق
Imam Ali (a) said: The one
who quenches the fire of his anger unjustly on someone, God will justly make him taste the disgrace (in return). [Tuhuf al-Uqool, p. 207] يا: ... ِ مَكتوبٌ في التّوراة: المامُ الباقرُ عليه السلم أكُفّ عنكَ غَضَبِي، ِسكْ غَضَ َبكَ عَمّن مَلّك ُتكَ علَيه ِ أم، موسى
It is reported from Imam
Al‑Baqir (a): It is recorded in the
Torah regarding which God Almighty confided to Moses (a), saying: "O Moses, control your anger towards those over whom I have given you [Al-Kafi, vol. 2, p. 302, hadith # 7] ّ أ: َ لَمّا سألَهُ الحَوارِيّون- المسيحُ عليه السلم ي : قالوا. ِّغضَبُ ال َ ِ أشَدّ الشياء: - الشياءِ أشَدّ ؟ بأن ل تَغضَبُوا: ضبُ الِّ ؟ قال َ َفيما يُتّقى غ
Jesus (a) was asked by his
companions: Which is most severe of all the things ? He replied: The anger of God. He was asked: What is the way to get protected from the anger of God [Mishkat ?219] al-Anwar, p. مَن كَفّ غَضَبَ ُه: الما ُم الباقرُ عليه السلم ِن الناسِ أقالَهُ الُّ نفسَهُ يومَ القِيامَة ِع
Imam Al-Baqir (a) said: The
one avoids getting angry at the people, God will be lenient towards him on the day of judgment. [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 73, p. 246] ِ َ لَمّا سُئلَ عن بَدءِ الغَض- المسيحُ عليه السلم ب ِ ومَحقَرَةُ الناس، ُ والتَجَبّر، ُ الكِبر: -
Jesus (a), when asked about
the cause of anger, said: Pride, arrogance and thinking lowly (belittle) of people. [Mishkat al-Anwar, p. 219] َ َ داوُوا الغَض: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ب ِ والشّه َوةَ بالعَقل، ِبالصّمت
Imam Ali (a) said: Treat
your anger with silence and your excessive desires with wisdom. [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 5155] ضبَ وهو قائ ٌم ِ َ أيّما رَجُلٍ غ: المامُ الباقرُ عليه السلم َ وإن كان، ِفَلْيَجلِسْ فإنّه سَيَذ َهبُ عَنهُ رِجزُ الشيطان ْجالِساً فَلْيَقُم... Imam Al-Baqir (a) said : When a person gets angry while he is standing, he should sit down because this will remove the filth of Satan (from him) and if he [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 73, p. 265, hadith # 14] ضبَ وهو قائ ٌم ِ َ أيّما رَجُلٍ غ: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ِفَلْيَلزَمِ الرضَ مِن فَورِهِ ؛ فإنّه يُذهِبُ رِجزَ الشيطان
Imam Ali (a) said: When a
person gets angry while he is standing, he should immediately attach himself to earth (sit down) as this will remove filth of Satan [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 73, p. 264, hadith # 9] ِ َ جِها ُد الغَض: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ب ِبالحِلمِ بُرهانُ النّبل
Imam Ali (a) said: Resisting
anger with forbearance is a sign of nobleness.

Imam Ali (a) said: Oppose
anger with forbearance.

، كانَ صلى ال عليه وآله ليَغضَبُ للدنيا: عنه عليه السلم حدٌ ولم يَقُمْ لِغَضَبِهِ شَيءٌ حتّى َ فإذا أغضَبَهُ الحقّ لَم يَعرِفْهُ أ ُيَنتَصِرَ لَه Imam Ali (a) said: The Prophet of God (s) never used to get angry for the sake of world, but when he would get angry for the sake of righteousness, no one would recognize him and no one could stop his [Mizan al-Hikmah, hadith # 15067] ِ َن الغَض ب َ مَن أحَدّ سِنا: عنه عليه السلم ِ قَوِيَ على أشدّاء الباطِل، ُلِّ سبحانَه
Imam Ali (a) said: Whoever
prepares to use his anger for the sake of God, he will be able to defeat the most powerful of the those on the [Mustadarak al-Wasail, vol.12, p.200, hadith # 13877] ِّضبَ ل ِ َ مَن شَنِئ الفاسِقينَ وغ: عنه عليه السلم ِضبَ الُّ لَهُ وأرضاهُ يومَ القِيامَة ِ َ غ،
Imam Ali (a) said: Whoever
is angry with the evildoers only for the sake of God, then God will be angry on his enemies and will be pleased with him on the [Nahjul Balagha, saying # 31] ّ ِ مَن أهُلكَ الذينَ ُتظِلّهُم في ظ، ّ يارب: موسي عليه السلم ل َ والذين... : ِشكَ يومَ ل ظِلّ إلّ ظِّلكَ ؟ فَأوحَى الُّ إلَيه ِ عَر ! َيَغضَبُونَ لِمَحارِمي إذا استُحِلّت مِثلَ النّمِرِ إذا جُرِح
Prophet Moses (a) asked God:
Who are your special servants that will be under the shadow of your arsh on the day when there will be no shadow except from you ? God replied: These are those servants of mine who, when my forbidden was made [Wasail al-shia, vol. 11, p. 416, hadith # 3] ُ عندَ وَداعِ أبي ذَرّ لَمّا سَيّرَهُ عثما- المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ن ، ّ إنّك إنّما غَضِبتَ لِّ عَزّوجل، ّ يا أبا ذَر: - ِإلَى الرّ َبذَة إنّ القَومَ خافُوكَ على دُنياهُم وخِفتَهُم، ُفَارجُ مَن غَضِبتَ لَه... Imam Ali (a) when saying goodbye to Hazrat Abuzar who was banished to Rabza by Caliph Uthman said: O Abuzar ! You were angered for the sake of God the powerful and the magnificent, so hope from Him for Whose sake you were angry. These people are afraid of you for the sake ... ، ِ فَأرحَلُوكَ عَن الفِناءِ وامتَحَنُوكَ بالبَلء، َعلى دِي ِنك ووالِّ لو كانَتِ السماواتُ والرضُ على عَبدٍ رَتقاً ثُمّ اتّقَى ، ّحقَ سكَ إلّ ال ْ ِ فل يُؤن، ًالَّ عَزّوجلّ جَ َعلَ لَهُ مِنها مَخرَجا ُطل ِ شكَ إلّ البا ْ ِول يُوح …thus they pushed you towards destruction and forced you in hardships. By God ! Even if all the heavens and earth are closed upon a servant who fears God, then God will open for him the ways (towards heaven and earth)…Thus you [Al-Kafi, vol. 8, p. 206,should hadith # 251] be only ضبَ على مَن ل ِ َ مَن غ: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم ُيَقدِرُ على مَضَرّتِهِ طالَ حُزنُهُ وعَذّبَ نفسَه
Imam Ali (a) said: The one
who is angry over a person on whom he has no power to harm, his grief will be of longer duration and he puts his soulwa in [Ghurar ul-Hikam Durar distress. ul-Kalim, hadith # 8728] الغَضَبُ على: المامُ الهادي عليه السلم ٌمَن تَملِكُ لُؤم
Imam al-Hadi (a):
Anger over those who are under your authority is [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 78, p. 370] ُ ليُعرَفُ الرأ: المامُ الحسنُ عليه السلم ي ِإلّ عن َد الغَضب
Imam Hasan (a) said: True
opinion (about someone) is not known except at the time of anger. [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 78, p. 113, hadith # 7] أل وإنّ هذهِ الدنيا التي: المامُ عليّ عليه السلم وأصبَحَت تُغضِبُكُم، أصبَحتُم تَتَمَنّونَها وتَرغَبُونَ فيها وتُرضِيكُم لَيسَت بِدارِكُم
Imam Ali (a) said: Beware ! This
world which you desire so ardently and towards which you have affection, and which makes you angry sometimes and at other makes you happy, [Nahjul Balagha, sermon # 173] is not َ ِ أبقِ لِرِضاكَ مِن غَضَب: عنه عليه السلم ك ً وإذا طِرتَ فَقَعْ شَكِيرا،
Imam Ali (a) said: When
someone gets angry over you, be still happy with him, and when you become angry, feel meekness within yourself (towards [Ghurar ul-Hikam wa Durar ul-Kalim, hadith # 2340] ضبَ لَم يُخرِجْ ُه ِ َ المؤمنُ إذا غ: عنه عليه السلم وإذا َرضِيَ لم يُدخِلْهُ رِضاهُ في، ّغضَبُهُ مِن حَق َ ُ والذي إذا قَدَرَ لم يَأخُذْ أكثَرَ مِمّا لَه، ٍباطِل
Imam Al-Sadiq (a) said: When a
believer gets angry, his anger doesn’t deviate him from the path of righteousness, and when he is happy, his happiness doesn’t force him towards evil, and when in power, he doesn’t [Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 73, p. 278, hadith # 33]
