California Assembly Bills 46 and 781 would disincorporate the
City of Vernon. The City, and every business in it, would
come under the control of the L.A. County Board of
Supervisors.
Your Insurance Rates will increase by over 13% based on the loss of the Police
Department and the local Health Department.
Your Business Taxes will rise significantly, possibly by over 1000%, since AB 781 opens
Vernon businesses up to DOUBLE TAXATION.
Utility Rates for your business could increase by at least 40%, because AB 781 allows the
County Board of Supervisors to raise rates at any time.
Very simply, if Vernon is disincorporated and the citys business fees and utility systems are
changed, businesses will leave the City of Vernon, the State of California and, possibly, the
United States.
AB 781 creates long-term uncertainty. Disincorporation means not just a reduction of jobs and
revenue in Vernon, but throughout California, in each and every California Assembly and Senate
district.
Outside of Vernon, it is estimated that California will lose $720 million of economic output, 5,500 jobs
throughout California and $200 Million in wages.
Overall, this will create a total loss of $1.5 Billion in economic output in California. Do we really need
this when our fragile economy is still barely recovering?
