Hamilton Central School National Honor Society 2011 Candlelight Induction Ceremony By HCS Chapter Adviser Deb Curtis

The National Honor Society is a society supported by the all the principals of this nation. The first qualification for the junior and senior students is to have a minimum cumulative average of 88%. Secondly they have to apply by filling out a form on their character, leadership, and service accomplishments. The applications are reviewed by a voluntary faculty committee. The accepted applicants are given letters by the present officers of the HCS chapter to invite them to the induction ceremony. This year the ceremony was on October 12th at 7 PM. The ceremony was lead by President Katie Weeks. Katie explained a little bit of history about the NHS. The speaker, Mrs. Terry Monty presented the inductees as nouns which portrayed their goals for their future profession and/or career. She went on to point out that many people change their careers many times in their lives. She continued by giving the inductees advise and praise. She is hoping they would use many adjectives in describing their lives. In a slide show she presented each inductee with their hero and an adjective she felt would describe them. The speech was excellent. The ceremony continued with the officers of the chapter doing small speeches on the pillars of NHS while Allen Schult lit each candle for each pillar from the candle of knowledge. Vice President Dana Bowers spoke on Scholarship, Service Vice President Alana Herbst spoke on Service, Treasurer Max LaBrague on Leadership and Secretary Hannah Parfitt on Character. Katie read the names of each inductee as they were escorted by a present member to the stage with their lighted candle and flower. When everyone was on stage, President Katie Weeks had the inductees rise to say the pledge for NHS. After the pledge they received their NHS certificates and cards of membership. Following the ceremony there were pictures, cake, and punch. Congratulations to the new members and thanks to the old members for an excellent ceremony. We would also like to Mrs. Bowers, Mr. Elliot, Mr. Jones, Mr. Schick and his crew, Mrs. Monty and the FFA for the flowers.
