What is Surf? Surf is a sport. And surfing is a surface water sport in which the surfer rides a surfboard on a wave which is carrying the surfer towards the shore. What is the History of Surf? We dont know the exact moment that surf was originated, but we do know that this sport was adopted a long time ago by the Polynesians. Early reports say that surf was introduced in Hawaii by the Tahitis, the Polynesian King. But the official report of when it was revealed the existence of surf was made by the Captain James Cook. When he discovered the islands of Hawaii and saw the first surfers in action, he decided to give it a try when those surfers told him that surfing was a way of letting the bad energies go away. At the time, the Captain liked the sport because it was also a way of chill out. The worldwide recognition of surf came with the Olimpic swimming champion and father of modern surfing, Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, a Hawaiian surfer. By winning the 1912 Stockholm Games, he became the main promoter of the sport. In 1950 the sport became very popular in the U.S coast. During the 70s and the 80s, the sport spread throughout the world, gaining very professional athletes and creating new championships. The success of the sport was so great that nowadays its one of the most famous sports in the world.
