Read/Write Web in education

The read/write web holds significant changes in store. Schools have been slow to
realise this potential of the web. Although colleges and universities have begun to
explore the potential, educators are only now beginning to contemplate the ways in
which their own practise and student’s learning can be enhanced. Teachers will be
forced to rethink the way they communicate, deliver the curriculum and what they
expect from their learners.

Teacher’s assumptions about teaching and learning will be changed and they will ask
themselves the following questions:
• How do we best put to use the content that weblogs provide?
• What needs to change about the curriculum when students are able to reach
audiences beyond the classroom walls?

The read/write web will be viewed as an advantage by some and as a risk by others.
Implementation of these tools will prepare students for the skills that they will need in
their post-education lives.
