Showing Love for God

(Luke 7:36-50)

Already saved? (When were her sins forgiven?)

The story is told of a father and his teenage son who had a relationship that had
become strained to the point of breaking. Finally the son ran away from home.
His father, however, began a journey in search of his rebellious son. Finally, in
Madrid, in a last desperate effort to find him, the father put an ad in the
newspaper. The ad read: “DEAR PACO, MEET ME IN FRONT OF THE
NEWSPAPER OFFICE AT NOON. ALL IS FORGIVEN. I LOVE YOU. YOUR
FATHER.” The next day at noon in front of the newspaper office, 800 “Pacos”
showed up. They were all seeking forgiveness and love from their fathers.

Tears are a sign of a heart that has been reached (see Judges 2:1-5)

God will respond to a broken and contrite heart (Ps. 51:17)

A grateful, joyful and unabashed loving response to forgiveness

What is the greatest commandment? (Mark 12:30)

How do you demonstrate love for God? (Mark 12:33, John 14:15,21-23, 1
John 2:5, 2 John 1:6)

The one who is forgiven more, loves more?

Love begets love. He loved us first.

"We can do no great things; only small things with great love." – Mother Teresa

Do you have an attitude of gratitude?

Do you look for opportunities to demonstrate your love for Jesus?

Sinner, uninvited by man, welcomed by God (Luke 5:31-32, 1 Tim. 1:15)

Kissing feet = show of respect for a teacher

Her response went beyond the customary

Anointing

To refresh and give a sweet aroma

Implies a recognition of who He is

Unlike with the Pharisee & Others There

Neglected: (see Luke 11:42, Pharisees neglect to

love God)

Traditional kiss (1 Cor. 16:20, 1 Pe. 5:14)

Feet washing (Gen. 18:4, 1 Tim. 5:9-10) &
Anointing with oil (Ps. 23:5, 45:7)

Who is this man who forgives sins?

So why do you think the Pharisee invited (kept

asking for) Him?

Saved by faith

Go in Peace (Rom. 5:1, John 14:27, the Lord’s peace is not like the
world’s, see Eph. 2:17-18)
