DESCRIPTION:TRANSFORMER: In order to step down the 230V. ac signal to 15v. ac, we need a t/f. Its current rating is decided by the requirement of output dc current . 2. DIODES: It is a bridge network that rectifies the ac signal, so that gives unidirectional dc. 3. CAPACITORS: The capacitor C1 is for filtering purpose, which changes the unidirectional

voltage wave into the wave form shown below.

The capacitor C2 is arranged in order to remove ripples, if any are present even after IC. IC-LM317: It is an adjustable voltage regulator IC. It converts the above wave form, which is red colored into pure dc voltage. And the output voltage value can be varied by the means of variable resistor (R2).

PIN IDENTIFICATION:

TRANSFORMER: The transformer will have 4 wires outside. In that, the red colored wires represent High voltage side (H.V.) whereas the blue or black colored are of Low voltage side (L.V.). DIODES: The A represents the anode of the diode and the K shows cathode.

One should concentrate that the silver strip on the diode represents cathode of it.

CAPACITOR: The shorter terminal shows its negative and the longer one shows positive terminal.
