HANCHETT PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY OF LIBRARIANSHIP

My librarianship beliefs are rooted in the power of information literacy and continuing education - and the love of losing myself in a good book. As a school librarian, I will strive for sincerity, kindness, openness, and understanding in dealing with all library users. Teaching youth to become confident, capable fact-finders and evaluators is an essential professional responsibility. I also believe guiding them to become enthusiastic, proficient readers is equally important. I will be conscientious about seeking the most relevant tools and information to aid in this education process and in the management of the school library collection. I believe school librarians offer the very best chance at helping our youth embrace lifelong learning. We must do this by fully connecting with them reading the books they read, using the technologies they use, and listening to them. I recognize the importance of building teams with teachers and staff, students and parents. As school librarian, I understand that teacher collaboration is vitally important and will constantly seek ways to provide curricular and instructional support with the resources of the school library and my own expertise. I believe the school library should be the central hub of the school a dynamic, exciting, comfortable, and welcoming place for all school employees and students. Finally, the school library should be a place that stretches the minds of children and makes them happy, eager learners.
