things that can be learned by correctly using a dictionary. A whole class discussion of what they find follows. Essential Question: What are guidewords and how can they help you use a dictionary successfully? Work Period/Activity Students will each have a dictionary, a worksheet and a pencil. The students will open the dictionary to any page and write the two guidewords in one of the boxes on the worksheet. The students will then choose any three words that fall between the guidewords they chose and write them in the box. The worksheet is divided into four sections for this activity. Next Activity: Students were given a worksheet with a list of words all beginning with the letters ti. On the bottom half of the worksheet there are two boxes with ten lines each. There are guidewords that might be found in a dictionary. The students are required to place each of the 20 words in the list on the proper page in the dictionary. Students are required to go to the third or fourth letter in the word to find which page the word belongs. Closing:

A whole class review of what kinds of information one can get from a dictionary. Ticket out the door: Students turned in the sheet with the ti words as they left the media center.
