INTRODUCTION

Fives is nothing but a way of managing the workplace.

5-s acts as a useful tool to have a better

organisational life and for quality control activities.

It implies change in attitude towards work in the

organisation.

WHAT IS 5-S?
Five-s are derived from the first letters of the words:

SEIRI
SEITON SEISO SEIKETSU SHITSUKE

SEIRI (SORT)
Sort all the items and categorise them into two-wanted/necessary and unwanted/unnecessary items.

SEITON (SYSTEMATIC ARRANGEMENT)


This step ensures proper and orderly placing of all the wanted items sorted with the help of SEIRI.

SEISO
The main objective behind this S is to maintain a neat and clean environment in the company by keeping the surroundings clean.

SEIKETSU (STANDARDISATION)
Through standardisation the company develops a healthy environment which results in quality output.

SHITSUKE (SELF DISCIPLINE)


This step ensures maintenance of standard and discipline in the workplace.
