Outline of Presentation
Motivation Advantages of MTDC over HVDC VSC Voltage Source Converters LCC Line Commutated Converters Advantages of VSC over LCC Possible MTDC Circuits Proposed Works

Motivation
Advantages of DC Transmission over AC Transmission (economics of transmission, technical performance, reliability) Interconnections of renewable energy source (wind energy, solar energy, etc.) with the main grid Interconnections of two asynchronous

Advantages of MTDC over HVDC

Bulk power transmission AC network interconnection over long distance Overall rating of MTDC lower than equivalent two terminal HVDC Low cost transmission lines and cables Capability of transmission corridors can be increased Greater flexibility in dispatching transmitted power Damp out electromechnical oscillation

Advantages of VSC over LCC

Frequency of operation of switches in VSC much more than LCC VSC do not require an AC Voltage Source for commutation LCC can suffer from commutation failure in case of faults at inverter side LCC require reactive power for active power flow

Possible MTDC Circuits - I

Converters located in same substation (BTB)

Possible MTDC Circuits - II

Converters located at different substation

Proposed Work
Incorporation of loss in VSC Load Flow Analysis Programming for Load Flow in MATLAB Effects on Load Flow Results on increasing the number of terminals in
