FINAL MAJOR PROJECT Introduction: The theme of this module is the application of subject specific and critical skills to the planning, organisation and successful completion of a body of work relevant to your vocational or educational aspirations. You will be expected to generate work independently. The work should represent the highest standard that you can produce. You must justify your project by researching professional and theoretical contexts. This means you will be researching other professional practices and products and engaging with debates around such topics as audience, representation, commercial contexts, aesthetics, professional practices. An ongoing process of enquiry and challenge is essential. IT IS NOT ENOUGH TO SIMPLY COME UP WITH AN IDEA AND MAKE IT HOW YOU WOULD NORMALLY DO. WE (AND FUTURE EMPLOYERS OR EDUCATORS) WILL BE LOOKING FOR INNOVATION, CHALLENGE AND CRITICAL PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT IN YOUR PROJECT. Subject specific skills will be linked to a series of practices: y The use a range of established techniques to initiate and undertake critical analysis of information and to propose solutions to problems arising from that analysis. y The effective communication of information, agreements and analysis in a variety of forms to specialist audiences, and deployment of key techniques of the discipline effectively.

The undertaking of further training, development of existing skills and acquisition of new competences that will enable students to assume significant responsibility within organisations. The development of qualities and transferable skills necessarily for employment or further study requiring the exercise of personal responsibility and decisionmaking.

Media Practice pathway students will acquire further specific skills in: y Self selected technical processes as appropriate to individual creative development in media production practice. y Developing their own studio based media production practice and identity, supported by peer and tutor led criticism and feedback
Teaching and learning methods: You will work independently throughout the module, supported by regular individual and group reviews and critiques.

Your collected evidence should take the form of: An online portfolio (webpages and blogs with SP4 prefix) which should include: y y y y y y An introduction to your final project. Your finished body of production. An evaluative statement of at least 750 words. A recorded presentation discussing the development of your final body of work, including research and production methods and a justification of your processes. A multimedia production blog. Details of appropriate references with notes.

Reading Strategy Advice on reading will be given during tutorials, in response to the students individual interests and aspirations. Research skills will be updated through library and study support. Students are expected to be habitual readers from those sections of the creative industries press that are appropriate to their developing creative identities. Students are expected to select their reading as appropriate to their developing independent practice, through consultation with tutors. Refer to and use the reading lists you have been provided with through your studies. In addition, you will be expected to carry out your own primary and secondary research and develop an annotated list of source materials.

Levels of Achievement 80% and above the student has produced a substantial body of work demonstrating an exceptional level of critical and creative independence in the research, analysis, recording and presentation of contextual material. The student has made an outstanding contribution to the knowledge and understanding of their peers through their active participation in seminars. The work exceptionally exceeds the threshold profile in respect of all criteria. 70% - 79% the student has produced a substantial body of work demonstrating a very high level of innovation, critical and creative independence in the research, analysis, recording and presentation of contextual material. The student has made a considerable contribution to the knowledge and understanding of their peers through their active participation in seminars. The work exceeds the threshold profile in respect of all criteria. 60% - 69% the student has produced a body of work demonstrating innovation, critical and creative independence in the research, analysis, recording and presentation of contextual material. The student has made a considerable contribution to the knowledge and understanding of their peers through their active participation in seminars. The work meets the threshold profile in respect of all criteria. 50% - 59% the student has produced a body of work demonstrating critical independence and creativity in the research, analysis, recording and presentation of contextual material. The student has made a significant contribution to the knowledge and understanding of their peers through their participation in seminars. The work meets the threshold profile in respect of all criteria; 40% - 49% the student has produced a body of work demonstrating engagement with the programme of study. The student is competent in the researching, recording and organization of contextual material.
