    Aptera Hotel is situated on the north-west coast of Crete between the coastal towns of Souda and Kalives. It is an excellent base from which to start your holiday on Crete and explore the many local places of interest. e hotel is located at Aptera (formerly Megala Chorafia). e village is home to the Ancient City of Aptera and boasts beautiful views overlooking both Souda Bay and the White Mountains. We oer three types of accommodation: studios, 1 and 2 bedroom self catering apartments, all furnished in traditional Greek style yet equipped with all modern facilities. All apartments are non-smoking and have private bathrooms with shower, cooking facilities and air-conditioning. A small reception and a caf are situated on the ground floor.     e ancient city of Aptera was founded in the 7th century BC and was one of the most important city states of Crete. Legends claim the city of Aptera took its name following a musical competition between the Muses and the Sirens held in the Temple of the Muses. At the time of the competition the city, which was to become Aptera, was renowned as a centre for musical expertise. e position of ancient Aptera is one of the most impressive in Crete, situated high on a plateau with fantastic panoramic views. In all directions there is rare beauty to meet the eye, the Cretan sea, the valley of Apokoronou which is exceptionally beautiful, the Akrotiri, the high White Mountains and Malaxa are all to be seen. e archaeological area is open to visitors from 08:30 to 15:00 Tuesday to Sunday (Monday closed)
