REPUBLIC DAY SPEECH 2011

Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands. Psalm 100: 1 Respected Chief guests, madam Principal, Vice Principals, teachers and my dear friends. On this happy occasion of the 62nd Republic day anniversary of India, I have great pleasure in extending my warm greetings and best wishes to my fellow citizens here. I would like to recall the words of our first Prime Minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru in his message to the nation on January 26, 1950. He said, Undoubtedly this is a day of high significance for India and the Indian people. It does mean the consummation of one important phase of our national struggle. That journey is over, to give place to another and perhaps more arduous journey. A pledge is fulfilled and the fulfillment of every pledge gives satisfaction and strength for our future endeavor. Our republic day actually commemorates the date when our constitution came into force forming an Independent republic. But friends! What does this day usually remind us? First, one fine holiday, sweets, T.V. programs and of course flag hoisting. But this is the day to think of and salute the great leaders who had strived hard for our celebration of today. Starting from Gandhiji, Nehruji, Bharathiar and many others who sacrificed so much for our Independence, we also have people like Sardar Vallabhai Patel and Dr. Ambedkar who helped to form our constitution. About our progress, even before Independence we had placed our mark in some fields and after which our progress was enormous. We adopted the mixed economy system. We have produced world class scientists like sir C.V.Raman, Dr. Abdul Kalam, mathematician Ramanujan, we have excellent sportspersons like Sachin Tendulkar,

Saina Nehwal, eminent engineers and doctors. We had many fruitful revolutions. There are also some fields like media, journalism, space technology and I T where we have stood out and the list goes on. Today, we can boast our superiority in many fields. But we have to realize that India is still in developing stage. There are many reasons for this. There is lack of dynamic relationship between the Government and the people. Because of corruption and bribery, the Government loses so many crores of rupees. But are we bothered? Not much. These can stop only if peoples ignorance is put to an end through good education. We should know what is happening in our country. Let us be unified without partiality. It is our duty to remove all the evils from our democratic country. For good development, it is essential that we students have the right attitude because the future of India belongs to us. We need not feel proud to work in foreign countries. It is our responsibility to bring our country up, first. We should strive for getting equality of citizens, quality education, good employment opportunities, health care and also give importance to our agricultural sector, reduce the usage of plastics and control our population growth. About cleanliness it is an important aspect which raises the respect of any country. We can all make a great difference by keeping our country clean. A simple e.g.: We get chocolates from our birthday students, for republic day; instead of throwing the wrappers on the floor, we can easily throw in the dustbin. If we start this habit from our own school, we will get this everywhere. While celebrating our national festivals, we should think of our past. But it is more important to think what we can do for our future. As our former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam says, India will be a super power by the year 2020, making this dream come true is in our hands. There are already people with this attitude and lets join them, spread this message to all and make the great India greater!

Today we can say that, we are proud to be Indians. But in the near future, through our persistent efforts, the world will definitely say that, It is a proud thing to be an Indian. Thank You; Jai Hind!
