The recent Thailand floods have devastated the Tourism Industry. Will the government be able to make up for the loss? The tourism Industry is devastated due to the recent Thailand floods. There is a huge loss for the Tourism Industry due to the recent flooding. Original estimates of tourists of this year was 19.5 million but due to the floods a revised figure of 18 million has been predicted. About 1.5 million have cancelled their tickets. So, along with tourism economy has also decreased. Many supermarkets have gained a lot of things due to these Thailand floods. The supermarket and grocery shops have made huge profit due to the flood scare, there was shortage of food as people have collected huge amounts of food and stored them in their houses to get prepared for the floods. Hotels stored a lot of food items as they had to take care of their customers who have already checked in. So, they have made huge profit. The Government are taking steps to make up for the loss. According to an initial estimate, about 2 million rai nationwide could be converted into water catchment areas. Other project aimed at limiting the potential of future flooding include added investment in information and disaster forecasting systems, land reforms, reforestation schemes and the creation of a new authority responsible for overseeing water management issues.

Tourism can still support Thailand s economy. The government is strengthening the foundations of the existing structures. They are building high walls are river defenses. More ponds, drainage, tunnels and pumping station are under construction. Every year floods are sure but we must be prepared to release the right amount of water at the night time.
