B1 = Thiamine
Deficiency: B1 deficiency may lead to Fatique, Nausea, Vomiting, Depression, Gastrointestinal problems, loss of Memory and Concentration. Extreme malnutrition and alcoholism may lead to Beriberi. Beneficial: B1 has been used for the treatment of Beriberi, Herpes zoster and various Nerve problems. B1 is useful in the manufacture of hydrochloric acid and to prevent Sea sickness. In combination with B3, B6, B12 and B15, B1 has been of help in cases of Multiple sclerosis. It is reported that B1 has reduced enlarged Hearts and normalized electrocardiograms. Caution: Large doses can cause adverse reactions! Sources: Liver, Yeast, Rye, whole Wheat and Wheat germs, Beans, brown Rice, Salmon, Soybeans, Sunflower seeds. Functions: As part of a Coenzyme B1 is needed for the breakdown of Carbohydrates into Glucose. It is needed for the activities of the Nerves and Mental abilities. It is part of the Metabolism in general and helps to prevent buildup of fatty deposits in the walls of the Arteries.
