MINI PROJECT ON SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT IN BIG BAZAAR

OBJECTIVES
 To study the supply chain management practices of BIGBAZAR.

INDUSTRY PROFILE
 Indian Retail Industry -waiting for the boom to take place.  These retail Stores demanded low investments for its establishment. The  Retail industry in India gathered a new dimension with the setting up of the different International Brand Outlets, Hyper or Super markets, shopping malls and departmental stores.

COMPANY PROFILE
 Launched in September, 2001  Within a span of ten years, there are now 150 Big

Bazaar stores in 80 cities and towns across India.


 Started by Kishore Biyani, the CEO and M D of

Pantaloon Retail.
 Big Bazaar is part of Future Group and is owned

through a wholly owned subsidiary of Pantaloon Retail India Limited.

SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT


 Most important challenge-organized retail-poor . supply chain .  Logistics aspect of a value delivery chain.  It comprises all of the parties that participate in the retail logistics process.  Product flow, money flow and information flow.

Supply chain practices of BIGBAZAR


 Faced lots of problem-Trial and error method solve the problem effectively.  Major problem faced by big bazaar is shrinkage of stock ,which was 4% three years back , which is now around 2%.

Big bazaar has many supplier for single type of product.

 how they maintain their inventory????  when they place order???  when they will get delivery??

 Big bazaar has a software - it shoots a mail to distributor once stock level reaches below 45%..  Company employee cross checks the quantity and quality of package then stock is refreshed(refilled).

Managing the supply chain


 To save transport expense????  company has warehouses-products are ordered in bulk and stored according to requirement -disposed to various stores.  Company has a warehouse in Coimbatore from there, they supply to its various stores in Kerala  For apparels they have a warehouse in Banglore, from there they supplied to most of south India .  90% of orders are system

FINDINGS
 Big Bazaar challenges lie in large and scattered vendor

base comprised of over 1200 vendors,  Large store keeping units base,  Daily throughput requirement of 0.5 million pieces from RDCs.  From multiple low height sheds to highly mechanized and automated distribution centres.

SUGGESTIONS
 FSCS(Future

Supply Chain Solution) has used advanced network planning and analysis tool to model optimised supply chain network for Big Bazaar retail operations.  The optimisation can be achieved by reducing the number of receiving locations from 16 to 4 and storage locations from 16 to 5.

EXPECTED BENEFITS
FSCS solution will helped in achieving  increased order fill rate,  improved inventory turnover,  better visibility,  supply chain cost optimization,  higher product availability,  wider choice for customer,
