Bipolar disorder sometimes called manic-depressive it causes swings from lows like depression to highs of mania. Some symptoms of bipolar is for manic phase is extreme optimism, racing thoughts, poor judgment, and risky behavior. But some symptoms for depressive phase of bipolar disorder is sadness, guilt and sleep problem. This disorder is suggested from chromosomal regions and candidate genes for the development of this disorder and it is also inherited too. The German psychiatrist Emil Kraepelin he was a big influence in discovering the disorder. The word bipolar was introduced around 1957.About 4% of all people in the world experience bipolar in some time in their life. There are 3 types of the bipolar disorder: bipolar 1 disorder, bipolar 2 disorder and cyclothymiacs. Some famous artists are believed to have bipolar disorder such as Vincent von Gogh. Bipolar disorder has caused an impact on the world because it affects a lot of people at least one time in their life. A case study that I looked at was about sister Margaret she served her congregation for 20 years. The doctors didn t know what was wrong with her so first they gave her some antidepressant pills but it only made a 50% percent increase in her condition. Then the doctor found out that she was suffering from bipolar disorder. She was treated with lithium which gave her a even keel. She learned that the biological part if her life played a big role in how she acted because of this and her life turned around after treatment.

From the studies now days they show that most of this disorder is caused by inheriting it from a family member. Studies show that children with bipolar disorder are 7 to 20 more likely to have manic depression then children parents that don t have the disorder. Bipolar disorder is also caused by the stress or environment you re in like sometimes people with a lot of stress have bipolar disease. There is researching that is occurring to find out what s truly is happening to make you have bipolar disorder. This disorder is treated by lithium. Everyone can suffer from this disorder maybe one day this disorder will be easily treated.
