    Fountaindale Elementary January 2012

    Dear Parent, Wow! Its hard to believe that we are already half way through the school year! Students are learning, thinking deeply, and making crosscurricular connections in each of their encore classes. Please continue to ask your children to share with you about all of the exciting things they are learning and doing in encore!
    Music:
    Over the next marking period in music we will be listening, moving, singing, playing, composing, improvising, analyzing, and evaluating music focusing on K- exploring high and low, steady beat, and rhythm to understand what makes music. 1st, 2nd 4th and 5th - exploring a variety of rhythms to understand how variety in rhythm makes music more interesting! 3rd-applying what weve learned about rhythm and melody as we play recorders

    Dance:
    Kindergarten to third grade students are just finishing up a ballet unit where we discussed how to be a technical dancer and how ballet can be a way to get stronger. We will next be learning tap and how to make our feet do the rhythmic talking. Fourth and fifth grade students will be working on a secret project challenge that involves creating dance phrases that make a statement to try to influence an audience.

    Art:
    Courtyard Mural construction will be underway by students from various grade levels. Kindergarten and first grade will be working on self portraits and paint exploration. Grade 2 color theory still life painting and clay sculpture. Grade 3 action figures, 4th and 5th grade clay sculptures.

    PE: We are in the middle of tumbling/gymnastics right now, and are going
    to do a 2-3 week unit on "recreational games" in the middle of February. Jump Rope For Heart will be during the week of February 20th during PE class.
