Ice Breakers

1.) On the first day of class I will break the students up into pairs. I will have

them create a Venn diagram about themselves. I want to know how they
are different and what they have in common. They can use family,
sports, pets, favorite colors, places they have been or anything else that
is appropriate for the classroom. They will have 15 minutes to complete
the diagram. Once they are done, they are to return to their seats and
sit quietly so I will know when everyone is done. Then they will each
come up and tell the class about their partner. After everyone is done, I
will post the artwork in the classroom.

2.) On the first day of class, I will hand out a piece of paper with the
following information:

I will give the students 10 minutes to complete it and once they are
done, I will have them put their pencils/pens down. I will ask them one
by one to come up to the class and read their responses to everyone. I
will keep these in my files on the students.

I believe both of these ice breakers will provide me with information


about my students so I can come up with activities they will enjoy.
