The Military Situation
- Clashes broke out between the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and Al-Assad's battalions in the districts of Al-Qaboun and Barzeh, Damascus. In addition, sounds of gunshots were clearly heard in Baghdad Street and Al-Mazraa Street in the heart of Damascus. (Asharq Al-Awsat, the Kuwaiti AlWatan, the Lebanese Al-Mustaqbal) - The Free Syrian Army (FSA) withdrew from Deir ez-Zor after three days of control over most of its parts. According to the statement of the revolutionary committees in Deir ezZor, "The governmental forces' tanks stormed the residential areas, especially in the South Eastern regions of Deir ez-Zor, then the FSA withdrew with a view to avoiding carrying out a massacre among the civilians." - Asked about if the Syrian opposition depends on the Arab League (AL) in playing a significant role in the coming Arab summit in Baghdad, the chairman of the Syrian National Council (SNC) said" We depend only on the Syrian people and the hands of its youth, and we will not prevent anyone, who wants to offer help, from doing so The Al still defends its goal which is Al-Assad's abdication and it is our goal too. Moreover, in case the United Nations (UN) wanted to take a decision on stopping fight in Syria, we would definitely back that decision too, but our first and last bet is on the Syrian people."
