Electrical Hazards

ELECTRICAL PANEL BOX


Electrical hazards have caused electrical shocks, electrocutions (fatalities), equipment damage and fires.

Contributing Factors
Improper wiring or splicing into electrical panel box Improper grounding or bonding electrical panel box Improper storage of combustible materials near electrical panel box

Corrective Measures
Report all electrical hazards to the Safety Officer/NCO and Mayor Cell immediately Do not store combustible materials near electrical panel boxes Do not place fire extinguisher in front of or next to electrical panel boxes
Soldiers and civilians will not open or tamper with electrical panel boxes and will report all unsecured electrical panel boxes to the Safety Officer/NCO and Mayor Cell immediately.

Inspections and Controls


Safety, Fire, and Force Protection inspections of living and working areas Commanders, leaders should conduct walk-through spot inspections Leaders ensure Soldiers are properly trained to recognize electrical hazards Soldiers enforce corrective measures to prevent electrical hazards

Here is an example of improper splicing into an electrical panel. This can cause an electrical fire, shock, or death by electrocution.

Do not place fire extinguisher next to an electrical panel that could be the source of a fire.
