Defense and Terminology

GLE- Goal Line Extended Drive- Man w/ ball, moving to goal Cutter- Man w/o ball, moving to goal Pick- Screen player w/ NO MOVEMENT ISO- Take defender 1 on 1 Slide- Move to cover offensive player Hole- Area directly in front of crease

One Middie up top Two Middies on the wings; one Attack on crease Two Attack below the GLE. Designed to allow the Attack more opportunities to drive from below the goal, and allows the top Middie open field to drive to the goal.

One Middie at the top of the box. Two Middies are on the crease; Two Attack on the wings. One Attack is behind the net Designed for one Middie, typically the fastest one, to ISO and feed; crease Middies are constantly picking for each other; Attack looking for open shots.

Two Middies at the upper right and upper left of the box One Attack, One Middie 10-15 yards from crease Two Attack behind net, 10-15 yards apart Designed to create open shots by using picks, primarily from the two people in the middle. While everyone else is passing the ball in a circle, the players in the middle are constantly moving and setting picks for each other.

Two Middies up top One Middie on the crease; two Attack on GLE One Attack behind the net at X Designed for cutting to the net. Good rotation is vital to the success of this offense. The attack and middies must be constantly rotating, and constantly looking for scoring chances.

We always keep our body between the goal and our man. We only pressure the player with the ball and any opponent near the crease. We stay close to the crease unless our man has the ball or is in position to receive pass. We slide to help when an opponent beats his man. We move with the ball and reset our calls.

Got Ball, you are guarding the ball Im Hot, you help if the ball man gets beat Im 2 you replace the Hot man on a fire Fire, the Hot man has left his position to help the ball defender Look Away, tells defender to find open man Check-in, goalie wants to hear got ball, Im hot, and Im 2.

Ball man: guarding the ball man to man; force to one side Hot man: able to slide w/o leaving equal threat; usually the crease defender 2 man: able to replace Hot man; least likely to get a pass from the current position Backside: replaces 2 man, as his man moves for a pass The other 2 are responsible for potential threats As the ball moves, assignment changes
