Comments on Responses to Question 6 This was a clearly stated response. It was analytical and there was a good discussion of the issues. The candidate had a brief introductory section on the events leading up to independence. He/she then discussed the steps taken by Brazil to secure effective independence from Portugal. The various initiatives in this regard were discussed and it was explained how. with relative ease, without major disruptions in the country, Brazil made strides politically, economically and socially towards self-sufficiency. The candidate also provided strong concluding statements relative to the topic in
quest ion.
