Mending Wall Questions:

1. This poem develops symbolism of a wall and neighbors. This wall physically separates the two neighbors and also socially. The wall (separation) of the neighbors spread during the poem. 2. There is no one/nothing that doesnt love a wall/their space. 3. The reader can assess that the author is either trying to infer that there is both someone who loves and appreciates the wall, but also someone who doesnt appreciate the wall. The author does this with the vagueness in line 1. 4. The speaker is one of the neighbors on one side of the wall. The conflict forms when the two neighbors begin to notice the differences amongst them. 5. The setting is in a city possibly where there are open areas for the neighbors. It takes place in the spring time and focuses on the two houses with the wall between them. 6. The pun in lines 32, 33, 34 comes in when he uses offense when he is sublimely also talking about a fence. 7. The author uses comic relief as an authorial technique. He uses a pun once and even uses comic relief when stating about a balance of the boulders. 8. Something there is that doesnt love a wall, That sends the frozen-ground-swell under it, And spills the upper boulders in the sun, Robert Frost starts the poem off giving the wall human characteristics saying that is spills the upper boulders in the sun which is impossible, but suitable for personification.
9. My apple trees will never get across, And eat the cones under his pines, I'd tell him is an example of Frosts techniques of hyperbole. He cant actually eat the cones under his pines, its an exaggeration. 10. Yes, this poem is an allegory. This poem flows to let the reader reveal an underlying message and lesson to teach the audience.
