AANDC purchase supplies in support of the Kasheshawan evacuations of 2006, from what | understand there are approximately 500 sleeping bags, 1000 woo! biankets, pillows and cots. This stock pile has not been used in a number of years and | was starting the process to surplus them through PWGSC. We have been paying Spruce Hill Lodge $6000.00 for storage each year. On Saturday Nov. 26th I received a call from the Timmins Red Cross asking if they could utilize some of these items, I confirmed that they are available for use and on Tuesday Nov. 29th they confirmed that they will be taking 150 sleeping bags up to Altawapiskat. The Red Cross also mentioned that they would be happy to send in the student volunteers to inventory the items for us. Re: CBC NewsNow: Chief Louttit on Attawapiskat support Sent: 27 Nov 2011 10:22 \We can run an outstanding reports report which would highlight what is missing however when GC Loutitt states that we should havbe known about the housing crisis, he is mistaken, \When this was first raised with the RDG she acted quickly to the declaration and reallocated funding When I asked the Chief about why we were just hearing about the additional 17 families living in sheds her reply was that the RDG didn't ask plus that she didn't know herself. She told our staff a few times that she was made aware of it in September/October and went straight to GC loutitt. We asked her and ‘A0073737_8.002648 ‘advised her that she can come to us at any time to discuss these kinds of issues and we would work with the community to address it. So unti this was brought forward we were not made aware of any housing ‘sis other than overcrowding We are all aware that GC Stan Beardy (NAN) states that there is a housing shortage in his area which is ‘around 5.000 homes just to meet the immediate need never mind the waiting lists in many communities, He has been very vocal about this over the years as has other PTOs, ‘We will review what is in the ACRS reports etc that Jeff alludes to and have a reply to Colleen’s queries early next week.
