Motion
On March 27, 2012 the Secretary received the following motion to be made at the Annual General Meeting on May 9, 2012. Whereas the Law Society of Upper Canada was created by an act of the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada in 1797; And whereas, the Province of Ontario is the current successor to the former colony of Upper Canada; And whereas July 1, 2017 will mark the 150 th anniversary of Confederation. Therefore be it resolved, That the Law Society of Upper Canada request the legislature of Ontario to amend the Law Society Act to change the name of the Law Society of Upper Canada to Ontario Law Society, effective July 1, 2017 together with any consequential amendments. Le 27 mars 2012, le secrtaire a reu la motion suivante qui sera prsente lAssemble gnrale annuelle du 9 mai 2012. Considrant que le Barreau du Haut-Canada a t cr par une loi de lAssemble lgislative du Haut-Canada en 1797; Et considrant que la Province de lOntario est le successeur actuel de lancienne colonie du Haut-Canada; Et considrant que le 1er juillet 2017 marquera le 150e anniversaire de la Confdration. Quil soit rsolu, Que le Barreau du Haut-Canada demande lAssemble lgislative de lOntario de modifier la Loi sur le Barreau afin de changer le nom du Barreau du Haut-Canada pour Barreau de lOntario, compter du 1er juillet 2017 avec toute modification corrlative.
