To the Citizens of Texas: I have known and worked with Dr. Kern Wildenthal for several decades. My total gifts for research exceed $ 67,000,000. Again and again, I have received calls from all over the world from people and soldiers with serious injuries and diseases. I could write a book about the incredible things Dr. Wildenthal has done to save these peoples lives. Dr. Wildenthals efforts have made University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center an internationally recognized research center through the work done by five Nobel Laureates and many other dedicated professionals at UTSW. Dr. Wildenthal has supported the efforts of Dr. Robert Haley to investigate the injuries to our soldiers in the first Gulf War from exposure to chemical and biological weapons released when storage bunkers containing these substances were blown up. Dr. Haley pursued this for years including testifying in England before Parliament. At one point U. S. government officials threatened to cut off all federal funding of UTSW if this research was continued. Dr. Wildenthal looked them in the eye and told them this research would be continued because our soldiers deserved to know the cause of their injuries, deserved to receive proper treatment, and to properly protect soldiers in future wars. I could go on and on about the incredible things Dr. Wildenthal has done, but if you only look at the size and capacity of UTSW when he became its President and compare that to the institution it is today, it is undeniable that Kern has provided great leadership. In all the years we have worked together, Kern has never made a personal request of me. All of his requests were to fund vital research at UTSW, and to help people who were desperately in need. e work Kern has done for UTSW and Texas is outstanding. I look forward to the great things Dr. Wildenthal will do in the future for UTSW and Texas, and count myself as honored to be his friend. Sincerely,
Ross Perot .......................
